Thanks for all the good info. Will be interesting to see where the run goes to. Will definitely update when I know for more specific insights. Hopefully an easy one for a first timer.

The hassle in CA is the truck speed limit is 55 mph and they expect trucks to STAY in the right lane. Trucks can use the right 2 lanes of a multi-lane road but since EVERYONE that got a CDL in the last 20 years refuses to ever drive in the right lane the 2 truck lanes are essentially clogged by middle-lane campers. In the big cities they have multiple interstates merging and exiting so it's not only crowded but those merge/exit areas are complicated. CA doesn't allow STAA trucks on every road and they enforce those truck restricted routes so DO NOT rely on Google Maps in CA or you can easily wind up taking a truck onto truck-restricted routes. The biggest problem is the car drivers and the container trucks are all very aggressive while the cops seems only to enforce laws on trucks. CA is not too difficult for even a new driver to negotiate and leave without a ticket, but you HAVE to pay attention and not just follow the flow of traffic or use "go along with the crowd" bad driving techniques. And, there is not enough truck parking almost anywhere. CA frowns on trucks idling and they don't care wat your opinion about the topic is. You should make a few trips into CA to learn it's not as bad as people say but it has many bad places and bad laws. After you go there a few times then you can make an informed decision to never go there again and wait for the state to starve because nobody like taking freight there. Don't be a chicken. Drive like your boss and a CA cop are riding with you and you will be fine, if not frustrated, like everyone else in a vehicle in the state. Don't park on the shoulder

You hit the nail on the head. I have learned to drive as I want. I never let anyone dictate how I drive. Drivers out there will try. They ride your rear, cut you off and can’t merge into traffic safely. You really have to be careful and constantly alert. The worst thing is the texting. Some I’ve seen aren’t looking anywhere near the road. I’ll definitely plan my route before I go and take any info provided when I find out the actual destination.

Driving in California isn't as bad as some people say. It requires some focus, some common sense, and sometimes a huge amount of patience but thousands of trucks use California highways every day with no problem.
Let us know when you're headed out this way. There are plenty of members who can tell you the most trouble free way to do things.

Get a 'I Love Weed' t-shirt and try to find parking at the Pilot.
Better reserve a spot if heading there.

There is a grocery store right across the street if you need supplies.

4 lanes in one direction, trucks can use right 2 lanes....... 3 lanes in one direction, truck can only use right lane, except for passing. I see trucks a lot using the middle of 3 lanes to travel in, which is il-legal. FYI. Coming in the state on I-40 no scale until Cajon pass on i-15 before San bernardino or on SR 58 after Mojave, before Tehachapi.

If you've been to New York and Florida, you'll be fine in California. Places are easier to get too and from than new York, slightly less traffic and better drivers than the east coast. I emphasize slightly lol

Good to know. I agree about east coast traffic. I4 in Florida is horrible especially around the mouse. New York and northern Jersey have their own problems. Traffic seems to get worse all over every year. Really have to watch yourself.
