I was recently let go from May Trucking because I received a U-Turn ticket and had an incident in a customer parking lot turn where I had to cut the corner tighter to get around a driver near the center of the road and hit a piece of concrete. The last incident caused no damage to the customer property though it did cause minor damage to the trailer.
Here's my question: Am I now forever disbarred from trucking? Some of the other companies I've talked to have said that they don't hire drivers who were let go due to an incident and that I need 6 months worth of driving with someone else before they'll consider me. If this is a staple for everyone, how do I get back in the driver's seat?
I understand that two incidents like this in such a short time frame (5 months) is bad, but both were fairly minor. What do I do?

I bet someone will give you a second chance. Both incidents seem small. Be truthfull about the incidents.
JustSonny Thanks this. -
You keep trying. Use the computer and phone but also get out and go to some of the terminals if you can. You've got to do things differently than the rest of the mob that is coming out of school. Having a ticket and a incident in that short of a time frame is not good but should not be the end all for driving. I think I'd look around to see if you could take a defensive driving course even if it was just for cars. It would show the employer that you're trying.

They are right. It isnt the end of the world for you. Be prepared though that you might have to work for one of the "less than desirable" companies. Like you, I was fired just a short time(8mos) into my career and thought I was screwed. I got hired with one of the "bottom feeders" and have found its not such a bad company. Good luck!
*edit* ...and from what I understand, a u-turn ticket is a pretty major offense. My company let me go for a uturn where I got the tractor stuck. I called up Schneider and they said that was a 15 year disqualification from driving for them. -
You can actually kill someone in a u-turn if they are not paying attention. I'm not going to say I never did it and I think almost everyone has at one point or another. But if you get caught, big trouble in some companies.
I applied with Barr-Nunn and they found 2 parking lot incedents on there and said they only allow one in 12 months. I can re-apply when the first one drops off if I am still interested. Also, did they put these on your DAC? Some companies don't follow through so you might be in luck.

U-turn ticket - did you do this where it was posted for no u-turns?
A number of companies have u-turns as one of those unforgiven no-no's.
There are also a number of companies that you can have in a maximum number of "little" incidents you can have in a year's time. Some are 2, some are 3.
How long have you been driving?Big Don Thanks this. -
At my company, a u-turn is immediate termination

Every now and then, there are times and places where you gotta U what you gotta U.
Lil Blue Pony Thanks this. -
As to the location of the u-turn, it was not in a "no u-turn" posted area, but it was leading to a restricted highway. THAT'S why I did the u-turn. I didn't want to get that ticket.
I don't know if they put it on my DAC or not.
I don't suppose anyone knows of a company that would hire me that's located in the northwest? I havn't exactly been looking at all the best and brightest companies. I just want a job. -
Sounds like Knight Transportation - How far we have "advanced"
since you could just get 'er done . . .
