Hello! I hope this isn’t the wrong place to ask, but my father is a truck driver and recently his AC in the cabin broke. Apparently, due to supply chain issues it can’t be fixed until 2024 b/c the part won’t be available until then. In the meantime, I’d like to get a portable AC as a Christmas present for him to use while he drives as it gets very HOT when he is driving in the summertime. I did do some browsing on the forums but some of the jargon is going totally over my head and if I gathered correctly it seems people are wondering about portable ACs while their truck is not running to avoid idling. I’d like to know if the opposite exists, something he can just plug in and run while he drives. Thank you in advance!!

He needs to get a second opinion. Compressors and outboard ac stuff is shared on platforms for the most part and others can be adapted if needed. If its inside truck specific stuff I'm sure you can find 1 of any truck in a junkyard to get a control unit or something? Sounds fishy to me.

I have a portable ac that I use at night so I don’t have to idle, and it works well. I guess he could plug it into a power inverter if he has one, and run it while he’s driving. The big problem is they have to exhaust out of a window, which isn’t a problem while the truck is sitting still, but while moving might be a problem. The last resort would be to cut a hole in the floor, and run the exhaust hose through it, but who would do that?

Even with the hole in the floor, I bet those truck’s odor could gag a maggot.

Wow. Eye opening. I don’t understand why they would leave that, move across the globe, and try to turn their new country into the place they left.
