Stryker 955 on a Budget! Anytone 5555N II!

They definitely are built worse than a Cobra CB. The Anytone AT-6666 has the most durable encoder but it does get hot because the heat sink isn't a very good design.

 

Well that's too bad. They are basically nice looking radios. But as they say...looks can be deceiving. I assume it all boils down to money and profit of course. When they make a mobile radio that can put out 60 to 70 watts PEP, it wouldn't cost that much more to mount a little fan on the back of the radio. At least that would help their reputation.

 

Since you own a 5555N and as time goes by, your real world experience will tell us if the encoder goes bad.

 

I bought a replacement encoder from Stryker for my 655 but haven't had a chance to swap it out. The project keeps getting shoved down the list. I assume it would fit in a 955 also

 

That's true, but it would be a pointless endeavor since the heat sink is incapable of dissipating heat and it simply traps the heat within the metal because there are no fins to dissipate heat.

It's just as bad. Both encoders contain the same wax which melts inside a hot truck on a hot day with the windows rolled up.

It's been four or five years for me and mine hasn't skipped yet and mine stays inside my vehicle with the windows rolled up baking in the hot sun, and freezing in the ice cold winter here in Northeast Pennsylvania.

 

My 6666 only rides in air conditioned space. When I leave the vehicle, I take the radio with me. Works like a charm

 

I bought the 5555 but it's too big to fit in installation hole and my company does not allow modifications to anchor the radio to the dash. Any advice?

 

I simply use heavy duty Velcro to anchor the radio. That model is fairly small I think. I have a 6666
