I'm sure with todays technology they could come up with a test that could test ones level of THC at the time of driving.

And until such time as the federal government, which regulates the industry he works in, legalizes it and deregulates from being a banned substances, he's still screwed. Colorado and a couple other states recently decriminalized and are legalizing 'shrooms, should he be driving under the influence of those? There are prescription drugs that carry they exact same prohibitions as pot, if he had tested positive for one of those, would your answer still be the same?

If this country says alcohol and cigarettes are okay weed should be okay.

So many accidents are caused by drunk drivers.
So many people get cancer from cigarettes.
But no weed is bad lol okay.

No people should stop ignoring the rules they signed up to follow because they over-value their own opinion and feelings. I think the drug screening and background check started in the 1990s. NOT ONE truck driver in years was not adequately informed they are subject to random and post-accident drug screening. Drug screen seem to be very effective IQ test, in addition to finding drug use. Some people simply don't value their own life or careers as others.

ONLY 1/3 of lifelong smokers get lung cancer. If smoking dope is more important than keeping a job just work at one of the jobs that doesn't care how stoned you are at work.

Yep eating fatty foods, cholesteral, too much medication, not exercising, playing sports, swimming, surfing, kayaking, mountain climbing, jobs that are dangerous, and a list that would take up 3 pages of other things that are or could be hazzerdous to you someone else and also cause higher expense for your medical auto or home insurance costs but I don’t see them on your list. So let’s take 1 all by itself and talk about the specifics of it instead of trying to compare it to things that are not specifically the same!

Your not talking to mr innocent here! I have most likely smoked, sold, grew and transported more pot than you will ever see and am no stranger to the different effects, tendencies of people who smoke it. Use your pitiful argument for the less informed with no real world experiance.

Do I think it should be legal isn’t the question. The question is if it was to become legal would I or anyone who really knows how easy it is to walk, ride, drive around for 3 + years without ever being straight is would
those people condone not having an accurate test for its current effect on an individuals actions/reactions be still be reasonable grounds to not continue testing and dismissing CDL drivers when they test positive.

Myself if I were to start operating other trucks again and needed to hire drivers they would still need to test clean by contract even if you could legally buy it in the local grocery store 2 isles over from the milk between the canned goods and children’s snacks.

If you want to smoke it find a different job that simple!

Imagine working for the stoner crowd and your pay not being on time or your boss forgetting to order supplies or pay his taxes.

Companies have tried but not succeeded at such an impairment test device that is cheap enough to use widely and measures a user's biology enough to make a dependable diagnosis. People have very different reactions to drugs. A functional alcoholic can blow twice the legal limit and otherwise show normal behavior and have no impairment. I'd much rather have the current urine test than a cop putting a beanie on my head and measuring my brainwaves, and then the enforcement devices that come after that. "The shower cap says you are lying. Put your hands behind your back, driver." I suspect any impairment measuring device will quickly be installed like the device DUI offenders have installed where they must prove they are innocent before they drive. Then there will be a black market in devices or know-how defeating those devices and we will have both govt invasion of privacy AND expensive monitoring devices.

No rules are perfect. Every advancement from paper logs to ELDs gets the govt more involved in innocent people's lives.
