Hmmm, not real sure how to digest most of this information. I start with USA on March 1st. Was pretty confident that the decision i made was a good one. Ive heard a lot of really good things, and just as many bad things. Like many people have said that the business is what you make out of it. I really hope that is true. I'm a fairly level headed guy with great people skills. I'm not a knuckle head that believes the world is out to break me down. I truly hope that i don't walk into a company that has decided to treat me like crap before i even show up for my first day... I realize that a company at the end of the day is about the company and their profits. They pay me for a service that i agree to perform for them. I don't blame them one bit for caring more about their equipment than they do for my paycheck. Like i stated its about them and what they pay me to do for them. I agreed to make 26 cpm and work for them for one year. They aren't forcing me to do anything that i don't want to. As a matter of fact i believe that i owe them a Thank You for fronting the money for my schooling and only making me pay back 2000 of it. But like i previously stated i want to work for the best company with the best benefits and employee retention. I'm not sure if USA is that company or not. I will do my part and treat others as i would like to be treated. With respect, and gratitude for the job that they have to do. Now once i have been disrespected and i didn't initiate the problem- then its game on and ill have a problem. My opinion is that many people on this forum that are griping typically have a bad day everyday. Now i also need to learn my place. I'm a rookie that has at this point only been to school. I don't know this business yet, i haven't driven a truck more than 50 miles yet. But i really find it hard to believe that companies are truly out to screw you every single day. I could be wrong. But im pretty sure im right.

    kcmofire:
Wait a couple months after you start driving, come back and tell everyone about it. You haven't got a clue (yet.) This is a hard job you're taking on.

You certainly have the right attitude. That is the same attitude I took going in. So far it has worked out ok. Btw, in my experience (in my 5th month) you are "right". Good luck!

Ive worked in EMS for the last 10 years as a paramedic. I began to get burned out in my 5th year. Completely pissed off about everything until 12-23-09 when i gave my boss a big F-U... Because she had been paying me an incorrect wage and fired me when i brought it to her attention. What im getting at is that i completely understand that bad things happen to people- good people. For things they may or may not have done. People get burned out. Get tired of their current situation. I think the biggest threat to most people is their personality and attitude. I can look through any post on any thread on this forum and find a complaint about something. I have mostly read nothing but complaints. Now like i previously stated I do not have any experience in this field except my schooling. I do not know anything that i am getting myself into. Right now this is a new adventure to me and everything is fresh and feels exciting. I can imagine after a while i will start feeling fatigue and burn out and start to blame my problems on my employer. But im also not the kind of person that only tells half the truth to rally some kind of support so that i can feel better about myself. I am having a hard time believing that all these employers are out here to burn everyone maliciously. Like i said in my previous post a company is only in business for companies benefit. Not that of the employee. They pay the employee a wage and a benefit for the service they request from that employee. Thats how it is in every single business and industry in the world. A business is in business to be a business and gain a profit to grow. They owe nothing to the employee other than what the law dictates. Now there are good and bad employers. The good employers traditionally care for their employees and want the morale to be high. So they pay extremely well and provide a fair benefit package. Other businesses treat employees like crap and tip toe around the law for better gains. But every employee makes their own decision to work for the company they choose. And a 6000 dollar bill will not keep me employed if i am that unhappy.

Sounds like you're pretty intelligent (able to reason and make good decisions) and you've been around the block. Trucking is a very tough business in the demands it makes both physical and mental and in the monetary sense. There's way more uncompensated time than most jobs, and also there's a great deal of risk. If you read some of the info available on this board you'll become more aquainted w/ these risks (things you need to watch out for and cope with.) I won't say good luck to you because I don't believe in it. If I was 27 and had a few bucks for school and had a paramedic background I'd study medicine (nursing, e.g.) Maybe you could get a local driving job part time while going to school in a nursing program or whatever, phys or occup. therapy, etc. Just a thought.

A few months ago I came up with the line, "full time pay, for part time work, must be available 24/7"

When you're running the money's pretty good.
When you're not it's okay, not great.
But when you realize you've been "on company property" for 28 days and only made about $1600 you begin to think about working for minimum wage as a step up!

For sure. Too many drivers have to go through this to gain entre to the industry. And it leads to accidents.

Great Attitude. USA not that bad of a Company. They done things for me some of these Companies everyone say are a good company would never do.

Apparently he has more of a clue than you think. USA does treat Drivers fairly good. The ones who has problems are the ones with bad attitudes. You can see it how they act. I met a few I even called to their face, Super Trucker. All because of their attitudes. Example one came into the SC Terminal faster than he should had, that the front end came off the ground when he topped the hill, then complaining of front end was messed up.. So if you had problems at USA does not mean others did not. I did not leave USA cause I had problems, as many claim. Just my miles went down to much and for to long.

Alright I see many are now getting it. Got to keep the right Attitude, and life will be much better.

    1. With USA your not sitting that much at a Shipper or a receiver. Wal Mart, drop n hook, Family Dollar Drop n hook. So where is the uncompensated time? There was very few time I had a live load and live unload. Yes there was but fewer than most.

SO I suggest to you Sir is if you do not like it, don't come in here try to convince others to change jobs, just change jobs your self.

At least kcmofire has the right attitude to make it, to achieve his goals without you trying to steer him away. Is it your Jealous cause he likes it and has the right attitude and you do not?
