This pretty much sums it up.........

    To add.

Drop in engines, Cummins anyhow, usually come with a longer better warranty on the package deal. Plus the workmanship under the red parts would all fall under that warranty.......not a outside vender policy.

If availability is there a swing engine can be turned around in half the labor time easy. To some the turn around time saved and extra warranty is a no brainer.
    To each his own

If you plan on keeping the truck and do a drop in reman, you now have a great opportunity to have a cheap clutch job, clean and paint the inside of the rails, change engine and rad mounts, change out all those hard to get at air lines hoses, etc.

That seems cheaper then I expect. 22500. What model is your Cummins?

I have the ISX cm-2250. I am curious if my engine would cost more or around that amount. Is Cummins on backorder for crate engines?

Plus another thing with a crate is you don't have to do as much precision work as you would an inframe.

Mine was a 2002 and older. (870 maybe?)

Once I made the decision it was about 10 days till delivery at our shop.

Putting the engine in was easier than any car or pickup truck I’ve done in the past. Other than the weight it was a piece of cake. Well, according to Rawze and others the quality control has been down for crate engines which sucks. Some guys have had issues. Not saying yours is but unfortunately. I may get a crate but you have a cm-870? Well I'm not sure about the quality control but that is a strong engine compared to what I have. And I bet alot less expensive then my cm-2250.

You are right. You can only dream getting parts for cummins isx for 4grand lol. Only head cost that much. Genuine parts will cost you anywhere between 12-14k and labor around 4-6k, so you are looking anywhere between 17-20k for a decent rebuild for cummins isx.( no injector, no turbo, no fuel pump)

Another question, could the new crate engine be a higher hp then the previous? I have a cm871 435hp turned up to 475hp, but would want to put in a 500 or more. Have 13 speed tranny, 3.55 rears
