I think everyone is overthinking this.
Deliver and drive straight thru to pick up. You will be there hours before your appointment and put it into sleeper there.

You have other things to take into consideration here ... But, you do know that the 14 clock stops as soon as you're off duty for at least 2 hours.

So there's no need for at least 7 hours to be in a sleeper ... 2 hours is enough. Caveat though, you must have at least 8/7 in the sleeper at your next break.

Next caveat though is some companies by policy, don't permit this.

The 14 hour clock only stops when you are in Sleeper Berth for 8 hours or a 10 hour rest period. 2 hours off duty does nothing, except when it is added to a 8 hour sleeper berth to make a 10 hour break. Then you must be careful to not exceed 14 hours on duty since the 10 hour split break began.

That’s not entirely right. If I drive 3 hrs and stop to get unloaded, go off duty. My 14 continues to count down till the 2 hr mark, either in sleeper OR off duty. Then that 2 hrs are added back to your 14. I’d have 8 hrs of drive and 11 of my 14 left(minus any on duty time for pretrip etc) the 7 or 8 segment must be sleeper.
I use the split sleeper frequently. Did it today… and yesterday, and the day before! Lol

The one issue I encountered is I once did a 2 hr break to get loaded. I then did another 2 hr break to catch a nap and miss a bad traffic jam. When I started again, it erased those 2 ‘added’ hrs. Reading the ‘dot Bible’, it says your 2 or 3 segment has to be followed by the 7-8 hr break. Take another break not at that length and you lose that ‘advantage’.

Edit: reading your post again, I think you are saying the same thing basically…. Sorry, I’s be stupid sometyme

No that's not what he said ... he's saying the 14 stops for nothing less than 8 hours in the sleeper "period" .. he's misinformed. Or he works for company who's policy is to still follow the old split sleeper rules, so he's not aware of how it can actually work.

As for multiple periods of off duty of 2 or more hours, the way my ELD has been operating is to default to the longer break. If the first one is longer the second one doesn't stop the 14. If the second one is longer the 14 reverts to the beginning of the second break and the pause starts there.

The short OD period has to be matched with a corresponding period in the sleeper of at least 7 to 8 hours. If you take full 10, with corresponding time in the sleeper the 14 will reset.

As an experiment once, I didn't put myself in the sleeper when I took a 34. All my clocks reset normally after the 34.

Actual implementation/interpretation though can vary from company to company with thier policies as to how they want to implement the split sleeper rules. I'm leased to an O/O company and we're assumed to be responsible enough to allow maximum use of the rule.

You took the words right out of my mouth. OP needs to use the clock to their advantage, not the company's. HOS wasn't created as an obstacle course for American Trucker Warrior. It's there to protect drivers, both inside and outside the truck, from companies that would put short-term profit over safety.
