We don’t chain up unless we have to,and even then the company will tell us to shut it down if the conditions are bad enough. The company pays inclement weather pay for such situations.

 

All work stopped and there were some indiscreet utterances. I almost called 911.

Marten is a great company, I drove for them for 10 years. If you do the paperwork like they want you to do, you get paid for detention and adverse weather conditions. I made 6 figures 8 of the 10 years I drove for Marten.

You just have to do things THEIR way as far as the paperwork goes. Its a bit of a pain in the butt, but if you do it right, you will get paid detention and adverse conditions pay.

 

An interior trailer wash, or trailer washout, as they are known, are sometimes necessary as certain shippers won't allow 'contaminates' to be present along their product in said trailer.

Keeping a trailer clean for this purpose is maintaining a 'food grade' trailer. Shippers of human food and dog food (Purina is one) require a clean trailer interior prior to loading and will inspect a trailer to ensure compliance.

An exterior wash is optional and a matter of pride. Some drivers care more than others regarding the appearance of their equipment. A truck wash is for when you have some time to spare.
