A buddy of mine who’s a CDL truck driver like the rest of us went in the other day to get his DOT physical done. This guy is in great shape. And I’m surprised by what happened. Some key points. His current medical card is still good for six months. But because he’s switching jobs he figured he would just get it taken care of. Apparently he went into this clinic that they really didn’t know what they were doing , He wasn’t well rested, wasn’t hydrated, had been eating poorly and his blood pressure was elevated. 145/106. They took it three times and it was right in that range each time. So as a consequence he failed his physical.
Since his old card isn’t expired does he need to report this, he 100% knows he’s gonna pass this thing he just needs to drink some water get a good nights sleep and go back in the morning sometime. No I’m not sure on this but I think they still have to report this and he’s disqualified to drive immediately? That’s my understanding of the new rules but I could be wrong.

He is, but isn’t that exam reported in the meantime and making him ineligible to drive? He starts this new job in two days current card is good for six months

Pretty sure if he failed a physical he no longer has a current valid card.

"Apparently he went into this clinic that they really didn’t know what they were doing , He wasn’t well rested, wasn’t hydrated, had been eating poorly and his blood pressure was elevated. 145/106. They took it three times and it was right in that range each time. So as a consequence he failed his physical."

The clinic didn't know what they were doing because he went in with all those problems and failed the exam?
    Get a clue!
It is his own fault because he went in for a physical knowing he was not in condition to pass it.
And it wasn't even necessary when he did it, he just decided to do it right then.

That’s kind of what I figured, I more or less told him he’s SOL.

No he does still have his old card for 6 months , until the driver walks in or faxes there new physical.
The clinic cant release that information due to Hippa laws.

Once that clinic enters that physical into the FMCSA database any current physicals become null and void. Its funny in another thread I wrote about a case where a driver was lucky the clinic did not submit his horrid physical into the database. The OP needs to contact this clinic to see if they did in fact make that report.
