    Hello everyone, how's it going?
Like the title says, I run my own one-man operation, have done so for years, and recently had the thought put in my head about expanding the company.
I definitely have the contacts and the ability to get enough work for other drivers, but I'm still not sure about the idea! Seems like extra headaches, and I get enough of those! I have some questions I hope you can help me with:

-What are some things I should think about before expanding?
-Can it be profitable to do so, even if I only add somewhere between 2-5 other drivers?
-What are some common problems that occur when expanding?
-Do you have any tips to ensure I hire hard-working, honest employees?
-Overall, is it worth it? Does it provide more headaches than benefits?

Anything else you'd like to mention would be appreciated too.

    Thanks!

I am not an O/O, but my cousin is. He has been for over 30 years. He had about a half dozen trucks, but went back to one. He said it was too many headaches. Drivers tearing up stuff and bailing and leaving trucks anywhere. Said he had enough.

It'd be less headache if yoou added O/Os instead of buying trucks and having to hire drivers that will tear em up. Not sure if that was what you were asking. In the

    :biggrin_25514:i second what he said.:biggrin_25514:
if you bought trucks then you'd have to worry about them tearing them up, wrecking them, maintaince, and what damage they could possible do to your carrier authority. if they were all owner ops, then all you'd have to worry about is insurance and what they could do to your carrier authority reputation.. so much for the trucks, since it's theirs they'll more then likely try to take better care of it, and as mentioned above, you wont have to worry about it being left on the side of the road cause it's not even yours..

I'm an O/O i have two trucks, i use one and let the other sit around for a spare in case anything goes wrong. I got real busy last fall and this past Jan. & Feb. had a couple of guys help me out with the work one was a friend and he needed money but,,,,,man he was a pain in the neck never stopped calling with problems (that he caused) i get this other guy O/O with no work what a pain in the ### he was all he did was whine drove me out of my mind. When i got all the work caught up I'm thinking to myself, what was i ever thinking of wanting to hire someone full time. No i will just keep it for a spare, i don,t need those headaches.

I had a company and hired OO's. Talk about a pain! I let them go and started adding company trucks. Just watch who you hire. Treat them right and they will treat you right. Sure, your going to get a bad apple once in a while, but if you have a good rep, there will be a good driver waiting. With OO's you will hear, this is my truck, etc.,etc.,etc. In my experience company trucks are better. Good Luck. By the way I drive and am still a driver, not a wanna be or has been.
