you have been around a bit .....

Do you remember when licenses were issued for CB ? And tubes were the only way to go?

I'm restoring that radio and the HE-20C cb radio that was almost the same ......

Yeah my grandparents and parents were both into it back then and all had their license but I was not really into it at the time i guess becaus ei was still pretty young. I later on became interested in the hobby and grandpa taught me quite a bit. When grandpa died I hoped to get all his old gear since nobody else in the family was in to it anymore but somehow it all got "misplaced" mysteriously after it had been in the same place for 20 or more years. :biggrin_25510: He had a ton of old equipment that he had for years and years so I was pretty ticked off.

I'm new to CB's etc, my dad's drove for years and only has ever used a factory cobra 25 classic. I don't know anyone good with cb's either. Me and freind of mine were hooking up his new connex 3400, and he was transmitting and I could'nt hear him on my CB. It turns out he had bumped his band switch and was transmitting off of the "D" band, maybe some explanations on how some of this works in simple terms and explain to the uneducated like me and some of my freinds who drive so that we are'nt intruding onto your bands.

I remember getting the "CB callsign" from the fcc back in 1977 when I was 15. I had a sears 40 road talker. My fist ssb rig was a SBE console II 23 channel. CB was fun for a few years until the late 80's it started going down hill fast. Today, in my area at least, there are only drivers on the CB and the local #######...example: 48 year old living with his mother and hasn't had a job in a year, a 40 year old on disability for a mental disorder but he sounds fine on 27.185! The truck drivers that pass through the Fargo area I often wonder about. Their english is so poor is often hard to understand them. What grammar school did they attend? Did they graduate? In the early 90's I decided it's time to search elsewhere for intelligent life in the radio hobby.

If you are who i think you are on other forums then thats all you do.........
Day in and day out over and over the same old thing!

The one thing that i have always found funny is that the hams will give the Cb guys hell up one side and down the other but dont have a problem with other HAMS cussing on the radio, not giving out their call sign the way they should, walking on others to get that way off contact, causing interference to others, talking on frequencies that their are not allowed on, running way way more power than the 1500 watts allowed by the FCC or using their big ham rig on the CB band..like 27.385 LSB! You hear and see it all the time but the hams just kinda over look them. Understand that not all hams are like this but there are a helluva of them that are!

It's just like a lot of cops you run into or see on a daily basis. As long as they have the bage they think they can do what they want, speed, run red lights. thinking that they are above the very law they are paid to up hold. Its the same way with hams who have that ticket in their hands, they can do what ever they want and anyone that does not have that ticket are less in their eyes.

There is a reason that the number of new hams has declinded over the last few years and it's not because the test is to hard!

You guys are just going to have to over look em because if you boot them out or give them another place on this forum they will still do the same thing. Get their rocks off by talking down to the rest of us!

Bad thing about it. I have my ticket and with all of the ######## on the nets or you hear when the conditions are strong i would rather talk on my $100.00 cb radio rather than my $2500.00 Yaesu!

Hell i got my ticket to get away from all of that BS on the CB radio and i be ###### if its not the same #### on the ham bands!
