Hi, I stopped driving for a bit to take care of my father, and didn't plan on driving again. I got a letter about 6-7 months ago saying my CDL was forfeited because I never got the physical.
Would I have to take the driving test all over to get my cdl again?

Depends on state rules. Most states will reinstate the cdl if you get a new physical and submit it to the DMV.

if you can, self certify, if you not sure if you want to drive.

I haven't needed one for yrs and keep my CDL.

    it's classified A with a K1 restriction. Intrastate only.

    no physical needed.

Probably will need to test again because of how long ago it was. But it really depends on the state and what their threshold is for how long ago the med card expired.

Call the DMV or equivalent of your state to see.

In Ca./Az. you can let your physical lapse for 1 year and then renew it and you're good to go. Over 1 year, you start over.

So, if you're intrastate, you don't need a physical unless maybe the company wants you to get one?

    atlasshruggery Thanks this.

You know you’ll need one either way. Based on my experiences with the DMV and lack of competence, I wouldn’t ask any questions. Instead I would get the physical, and self certify using your States online system, if they have one. If not, in person. You’ll have your answer for sure. Hopefully it will float on through. Sometimes it’s better to say nothing till necessary. I’ve learned the hard way. One wrong workers input can cause a lot of grief. Just to be on the safe side. You can research or call the DMV. I’d try to stay anonymous myself, just in case.

A Itrastate CDL A here in Wisconsin needs no Fed med card just self certified form.
That law won't be around long , if i heard right Michigan does not offer it.

If you self certify, you will be intrastate only, here in NC.

I'm retired and don't know if a company will accept that, but I do retain my CDL.
