I have 2005 Columbia series 60. So the part where I add my coolant there is a low coolant sensor. When the wire is connected to it the check engine light go away but after a lil while when the truck is warmed up the check engine light and engine protect comes on and shuts a down. But when I disconnect the wire form the low Coolant the check engine light stays on but the truck does not shut down. Anyone experience this series 60? Thanks
Take a look at the pic to have more of an idea

Been through this a hundred times on these trucks. Is there and extra pigtail attached where the wiring harness had to be adapted at some point? If so eliminate the extra connector and use some heat shrink butt connectors.

Ya had it do it on mine a couple times, I know you can go into the computer and change the settings in the ecm so this wont happen. On mine i just electrical tapped the wires to the connector real tight so they couldnt move away from the plug ect and no more issues.

Most likely a wiring issue, it could be a bad sensor as well. High resistance in the wires could show as being low on coolant, but still is a range that the computer thinks is a good reading. This will shut the engine down if it's programmed to shut down. When you unplug it, it sets a fault for high voltage (open circuit), since this is not a valid reading, the computer things that it is a faulty sensor to wiring and doesn't shut down, just gives a warning light.
Find and fix the problem, then find someone with the DDEC software to change the parameter for coolant level to "warning", it's probably set to "shutdown" right now.guru2323 Thanks this. -
Hi, Everyone..
Last night my truck started to show the check engine light and then the shut down light, didn't respond to acceleration till it shut down, then we turn the key switch off and on and start again and in a matters of minutes (15-30 minutes) did the same thing... today we disconnected the coolant level socket and jumped it with a cable (you can also close the circuit/jump with a fuse) and since then it has been working find... once arrive will check the coolant level censor since spears to be the issue... hope this information be helpful for someone with the same issue.. bless for everyone and be safe out there. -
Good evening guys have a 2000 Freightliner Classic Xl with the Detroit 60 series. I have had the ECM replaced and one wiring harness along with the engine coolant sensor replaced but still have the emergency shut off/ check engine come on. Temperature is running at 190-215 max when loaded up hills. Oil temperature runs up to the line before 300 but bounces not sure if reading accurate. What I noticed is when our temp reaches that line or a hair beneath the lights come on and do not shut off until it’s under the line again

I am having the same problem right now with my series 60 but my engine is not cutting off just the warning light is on took it to mechanic he put it on the diagnostic tester and found out that it is the coolant sensor or the wiring harness going to pick up the harness and sensor tomorrow. See if that fixes my problem and see if the light stays on or turns off I will update if that is the issueRideandrepair Thanks this.

I’ve replaced sensors and thought it was fixed, only to have it happen again. Last time I replaced the pigtail again, since it only did it when it got wet. Turned out to be the sensor. Sometimes they just need to be cleaned. The plug itself goes bad from the fan blowing it around. Try to zip tie it good, cover with plastic sheathing and even tape it to the plug, to keep it from moving. Also the wires tend to break about 6-12”” from the plug. They get brittle over time from engine heat. I try to only cut it back just enough to fix it, leaving room for next time.
