Need a sleeper meeting the regulations !!!!

 

After you're done driving your brother may drive for a maximum of 3 hours depending on what time you started. Your brother's 14 hour clock would end the 14th consecutive hour after he came on-duty.

11 + 3 = 14

The 11 hours your brother spent riding is on-duty not driving counting toward his 14 hour rule.

Just out of curiosity, are there prescribed dimensions for a legal sleeper? I've seen a few International Transtars (I think) with what looks like an extended cab and the drivers have told me its actually got a bunk.

Seems like if that's the case, a quad cab pickup is only some curtains away, oh and perhaps a more bed-like rear seat.

 

There has been much discussion on the sleeper berth issue with 1 tons and medium duties . No 1 ton rear seat will meet the required dimensions . A Canadian company sold a product called the CrewCab Sleeper they advertised as meeting FMCSA requirements . It didn't . They installed bubble windows to meet the width requirements but they failed to meet the height requirements .

Quad P-U won't do it. Search the regulations for sleeper requirements....
Very specific about it......

 

The RV transport companies won't allow contractors with duallies to log sleeper berth unless they have a sleeper that meets the requirements . A few do .

 

Understand because you are team it really means one thing, the truck can roll 24/7 usually if both have 60/70 hrs available.

Lets say you start your day at 8:00 am, that means your 14 ends # 10:00 pm, however you finish your 11 hrs of driving up by 8:00 pm, once he gets up and enters lines 3 or 4, his 14 hr clock starts so he has from 8:00 pm to 10:00 am to do his 11 hrs of driving, if he takes until 10:00 am to do that 11 hrs of driving your 14 hr clock wont' start until 10:00 am, if you get up immediately.

Anytime you are sitting in the front seat you are on-duty so you want to avoid sitting in that front seat so it doesn't start your 14 hr clock. Don't even sit there for 1 minute cause D.O.T. might catch you, has many drivers in the past.

Note he said they would be using a Dodge 3500 pickup . He'd be on duty anywhere in that truck . There is no sleeper berth . No back seat in any 1 ton truck can qualify as a sleeper .
