That is true but maybe more telling is the number of drivers who thought the grass was greener elsewhere and find themselves back in Tom's class Grateful that May allowed them to come back.

bigblue19 said: ↑Hi BigBlue, I repect your confidence. There are alot of us however who are new and rightfully so less demanding by nature of that newness who are grateful just to have a job. I myself try to focus on all the good aspects of the career field and minimize the negative. I think of the days not to far gone when my Dad would get a motel room (all on his dime) due to extreme temps so he could get the rest he needed because he was a proffesional and knew he had to get the freight there, on time. Now I am not saying anyone who wont work in a truck
You have put forth the very reason I do not drive OTR on a full time basis anymore. If I have to roast or freeze in my truck so that the owner can keep the doors open then why would I want to work their?
Requiring a safe work place is not complaining, it is a workers right.
I did not see any office staff sweltering or freezing at there desks. Nope just driver coming out of their bunks dripping sweat and trying to make it to the water fountian before they died of thirst.
If ones life has been reduced to just being happy to have a job, then maybe one should look at themself in the mirrior and ask themselves where they screwed up.
Much larger company's then May have put APU's on the trucks and did not cut pay, drive out most of their veteren driver, and charge their drivers to run company equiptment. May has done all of that and refuse to provide a safe work place for it's drivers.
When Summer roles around a May driver should document their working conditions and let the public decide if they want to drive along inexperienced drivers who did not get proper rest becouase their truck was 110+ in the cab during their break.Click to expand...
I very much respect you opinion Big Blue, Would you give some info about who you drive for and what type equipment you drive? I am always interested. And always up for an education!Click to expand... -

Hey Wellgolf, just got my cdl and looking at May. I would be going to the Payette terminal as well. How was orientation, and how are you doing out on the road. How's your training going, miles, layovers etc.. I'm really trying to find the best fit, being that one mistake could end ones career.
any info would be very helpful~ thanks Liteguy -
My dm is Shirley, I have not been out on a trip with her yet as my dm so I don't know much about her. I was with my trainer and his dm was Mike.
As far as your questions Liteguy, I would say so far I have been happy with May. The orientation was all right, you know videos and paperwork. You will go take your test drive the first morning and if you don't get by that your done.
When I was with my trainer we did about 2800 miles a week for the 3 weeks I was out with him and I drove 90% of the time. I think I had a good trainer and learned as much as he could stuff into my fat head in the short time I was out with him.
We never had much layover time, I think the longest time we had to wait for a dispatch was about 8 hours.
Good luck with your choice, try to keep in mind that as with most starter companys you are going to find things that will rub you the wrong way and you just got to be able to go with the flow untill you get some expriance. -
Thanks Wellgolf, keep us posted on your going's on there~Liteguy
