Are license plate frames legal for trucks? I purchased one recently, and it wouldn't cover any of the letters or numbers on the plate.

No issues. I ran one for years, when I had a polished truck. I see them on a lot of the nicer trucks.
TarnishedSoul and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
My state doesn't allow ANYTHING on ANY part of the plate. No state is going to give you a ticket for NOT having a license plate frame, so I would skip it. The fact some states may not routinely enforce that law doesn't protect you from a jerk cop giving you a ticket.TarnishedSoul, LoneRanger, 201 and 1 other person Thank this.

I’ve ran a license plate frame since I’ve owned trucks. Never ever have I been question about it.
TarnishedSoul, ducnut and flood Thank this. -
I agree, Colorado has no sense of humor either. I think it's more of a warning thing, but it gets the LEO into your space. It, like dogs on a leash, is loosely enforced. And "swinging" license plates are a no-no too.TarnishedSoul and tscottme Thank this.

If the plates are over 18 it’s not my business what they do in their social life.

It’s funny you mention Colorado. Back when I first had my FLD the bumper was white and the readers on 470 couldn’t pick out the white plate on the white bumper so I never got a bill. Then after I painted the truck and it had a black bumper I started getting bills for running 470. Then when I put the Herd bumper on with a swing plate suddenly I didn’t get anymore bills for 470 again. Lol48Packard, tscottme and Crude Truckin' Thank this.

Naturally is is illegal in New Jersey. doesn't stop hundreds of auto dealers in NJ selling new cars with license plate frames.
TarnishedSoul Thanks this. -
Tennessee is the only state that I can’t interpret..All other states allow them as long as all information is visible..

About 15 yrs ago, Texas started giving fines for having license plates obscured with a frame. The part that has the state name has to be visible. A lot of car dealers came out with re-designed frames after that.
RockinChair, TarnishedSoul and Diesel Dave Thank this.
