Does an ‘87 model 379 require a certain type of steering wheel puller?

My guess is the generic one will work. The position I am familiar with pulling from is the center of the steering wheel.

Yup, but I don’t know what I’m supposed to attach to. Alot of time a steering wheel will have a solid steering shaft a 2-3 threaded bolt holes, to pull from as you push against the center shaft.

Ideally, you’d want this style. But, I’m not sure where you could rent one like it. They’re expensive, but, work on any wheel.

I’ve had some compromising situations and used a 3-finger. If you can get any kind of bite under the wheel, use a big hose clamp (depicted by the red lines around the outside ) and tighten it as tight as you can around the fingers, keeping it gripping under the wheel. If that won’t work, you might have to use some flat, bar stock and slide a couple pieces under the wheel. Then, use a 3-finger to get a grip on them.

If memory serves me correctly the 379 wheel has a center blind cap that comes off. Take a picture of that if you can. Maybe I am confused with something else.

I meant the entire wheel with the center cap taken off.
