The true cost of windshield replacement

I have a little shop in a suburb do the local windshields - $175 less than 40 minutes.

 

$350 for both pieces installed. Install time 30 minutes for both.
1999 fld120. Owl got too close. I was lucky it hit the center post.



When I parked the neighbors came over to inspect.

 

In San Antonio I call a guy, takes him an hour or so. I believe it was $340 on my t680 and $330 on my 379 (both left and right pieces).

Used to be cheaper a year ago but now everything is expensive.

$250 per side for a Western Star from my mobile guy.

 

Too many variables. What's the point of this futile experiment?

 

My guess is the OP is somehow responsible for breaking someone else's windshield and is balking at the cost of replacement including downtime.

 

More and more of the newer style truck models have glue in glass and are getting away from the easy removable reusable gasket type. Just like getting it replaced in a car This takes much longer to cut out, clean, and reset. Wait till they put all the sensors in the glass like the new cars that have to be reset when replaced.

Not all glass is created equal. A lot of the cheap crap is hard to see thru even when new. Then there’s some places that can’t even install it correctly without damaging something or making leaks. Heaven forbid there’s a camera or something taped to the glass. We will just throw it in the seat. That’s not included……

Good glass guys are as hard to come by as mechanics or drivers for that matter.

Like everything else in life, you get what you pay for in most cases.
