Anyone else about to experience the new hourly pay changes?

    That's the issue with trying to apply blanket pay changes over a company with SO MANY (purposely) strange pay methods.

    know the jcp drivers are screaming about this..... $15 per stop from #2 on and $40 unload. pallet and hanging clothes. or thats what it was when I left ages ago..... 8z10 yrs ago since I was on the account.

    I can see some serious clock milking gonna happen. now if only that translated to more thorough pre and post trips!!!! more drivers willing to run through a shop for flat as opposed to just dropping for the next , etc

    Friday night when I hit the yard I had 12:20 left on my 70. When I got in my car 30 minutes later I had 00:03 left. And I still would have made $50 more on the old pay scale.

    I’ve never had the sense that they ever intended it to be a raise for most drivers. They’re billing it as get paid for everything you do, but they’ve been very careful in the monthly driver chats to dampen the expectation that anyone will be making more.

    It sounds better to say you’re getting paid hourly for time not driving, and I’ve often heard or read drivers complain that they don’t get paid for that time.

    On the other hand, I suspect Schneider has a target average pay rate for each type of driver position and they’re just going to manipulate the variables of hourly and mileage pay until the majority of drivers are hitting that target.

    It would be near impossible to switch the pay structure so significantly that you wouldn’t have some making more or less than before. The same would be true if they were going the other direction, back to mileage and accessory pay. In that instance, you’d be making more and I’d be less. If we had never been under the old structure, we’d have never known any better.

    I think the way to look at it, under either structure, is ignore the mechanics of how you’re paid and determine whether your gross at the end of the week is worth it to you personally for the work you put in. Then decide whether SNI is still where you want to be.

    In the end, I really think the change isn’t intended for the benefit the existing drivers, but to give SNI an edge over the competition in recruiting new drivers by being able to say you’re paid for everything.

    I'd heard this was a response to the laws being passed requiring drivers (like Uber or Doordash) to be paid for the time they are on duty. I have no idea if that is true though.

    Watch.. STLs will start whipping drivers to stop wasting time at tasks. "What? It took you 15 whole minutes to drop, hook and pretrip that trailer?"
