Some time last year I was hearing from some people trying to use Escapees addresses at Florida DMVs and the addresses were not accepted as proof of residency.

Their a group that deals with folks who live full time in a rv. It just happens the way they do it works for both RVs and big rigs when it comes to needing to prove residency. Or anyone else I imagine who wants to pay for the service.

Escapees RV Club (Home) · Freedom Driven

They can explain the process in their FAQ I think it is. If not the forum there has ton of info on establishing residency in Texas, Florida, and SD.

Yes a lot do use SD. It's easy to change over everything there. Same with TX and FL. Compared to the other states that is. Of the 3, it's a matter of choice. Some choose for tax reasons, some because they don't have to go back as often for stuff, etc etc.

They will, or most will I should say. Make sure it's in good condition. Leaking oil everywhere is likely to not make them happy with you. It's the same with RVs and personal vehicles. State parks like the money. Keep in mind a RV site will cost more than a tent site. Usually do to having electric, water, and a larger pad due to the rv. Tent sites usually lack electric, and have a single parking spot for your vehicle. Both types of sites usually have a grill onsite, or at lest nearby to use.

State Parks are a good idea. Nice surroundings, usually not very noisy unless it's a weekend, or holiday. Cheaper than a hotel. National parks should work also, but I can't speak for that. I have seen trucks bobtail before in a state park. Only reason I can see a state park denying it is if the roads couldn't handle it, or the sites, for example. Or your leaking fluids all over the place, which can obviously be bad for that kind of area.

Far as Florida not taking the address anymore, I can't verify. I can only go by what escapees offers on it's site under domicile > Florida.

If they did stop taking it, I can think of numerous reasons why and most have nothing to do with trucks, trucking, or it's drivers. I'll have to poke around their forum for more information. One would think a company who has been doing this for as long as they have would note any changes to Florida on their site, as I know they have a lot of members there. FL and Texas are big RV destinations for full-timers. Which is who they cater t o.

I could be wrong on that. I just know that I had heard from several people that Florida DMV had rejected Escapees addresses as not being legitimate proof of residency.

They still have the info up on their site, which is what has me curious. The people you herd from...do you know if they used the actual address Escapees provides? In rooting around their forum, I don't see anything about the changes to Florida. This part under the Florida Domicile list : (Quotes and bold are mine)

"Note: As an Escapees mail service member, you may elect to use “Escapees: Home” as an additional mail service benefit. This service is specifically geared for full-time RVers who have sold their brick and mortar homes. Escapees: Home allows you to use Sumter Oaks RV Park as your physical address for state-specific documents (such as driver license, voter registration, and vehicle registrations.)"

    Is what has me curious.

Either way, I appreciate the heads up. I'ma have to reach out to them and find out I think. It's one of my options when I finally decide to go full nomad mode. ;) I'd prefer SD or TX but...Florida would work to.

Well, I hope that it was an issue that the people I heard from just used a wrong address like they thought they were using Escapees but weren't. I hope it's that versus Florida nixing Escapees.

I'd do it anyway and if it doesn't work out, I'd use the South Dakota address.

Me to. ;) Not saying you or the other fellow are wrong. Just going by the site, and trying to figure it out. As I got an interest outside of trucking. lol.

That blurb I posted is what has me asking about the address. I'll try and remember to give them a call this week and see if I can find out.

What Chinatown said. If one doesn't work, use one of the other 2.

    Good thread.

I can imagine the neighbors in their tents wouldn't appreciate someone's APU blaring next door all night.
