Good evening, all! I'm looking at a 2014 Cascadia on an online auction and wanted to pick a few minds. This 10 speed day cab has +/- 835k miles and a DD13 that doesn't build oil pressure. Probably a safe assumption that the engine is toast but I'm not familiar with these Detroits. Is there a common problem that would cause this?

Now, going with my most likely correct assumption of a bad engine, what are the options with a truck like this? Is it strictly another DD13 that has to go back in? Can a guy get creative and put a different brand in there? Maybe even something pre-emission? Any thoughts or experiences? Thanks!

A local guy around here does those kind of swaps on a regular basis. Do not thank he swaps brands. Gets used engines from LKQ and such.
    Probably about $25 - $30,000.
Could just have a bad pick up tube. How many times has it be started?

    Rideandrepair and The_SnowMan710 Thank this.

I have no idea on that last part. I only saw it this afternoon and read about it for 10 minutes or so. I haven't actually seen it in person or talked to anyone about it. I did read that the pickup tube can be a problem. How likely would it be that didn't fry the engine, though? In my mind, not very.

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Pull the pan and check the bearings.

^ What he said. I would definitely pull the pan and inspect before you make any radical decisions.

If I do buy this, I'll definitely pull the pan. I'm thinking more along the lines of a worst case scenario type of thing. If this Detroit would turn out to be junk and I come across a reman CAT or a 60 series, can a guy get away with that or would it have to be another DD13 that goes back in?

All in all, this truck is only worth $10k-$20k to me as it sits, so I probably won't even get a bid in, knowing my luck.
