Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

That's a college town-kinda, right ?
Sysco, or other food service companies ?
Soda and beer distributors ?.....Good Luck !!!!!!!!!!! -
Get out in the field and talk to drivers. See a local outfit making a delivery? Stop and ask questions. DO NOT just sit on your arse in your living room and scan the newspaper. Check out Craigslist, Drive around town with pen and paper, take notes....Observe. You have to find it, it won't fall from the sky. And hang around warehouses too.
dollylama Thanks this. -
I miss Austin.
Anyway......my nephew says gravel and beer are what's primarily hiring currently.
Just a thought -
Im from Austin, and I can tell ya, the ONLY local jobs your going to find are hauling rocks. You might can get on with Sysco or Pepsie or Coastal (huling Gas) if ya wanna go that route. The haulin rocks thing will be hard for you to get into unless you KNOW someone or have a crap load of EXP doing it, and alot of the smaller rock hauling companies are only hireing cheap labor that can speak spanish (if ya get my meaning). Good luck man, im in the same boat with ya, and now looks like im going to hafta suck it up and go OTR again, or figure out a way to get into my own dam truck....
Big Duker Thanks this. -
Thanks guys, its been realy hard. I apply everywhere, all the freight companies like fed ex,upsfreight, conway. Even pepsi and coke. There is notting. I checked costal too, notting at all.

Have you thought about going to the worksource?

You should try Coastal (hauling gas) or alot of grain hauling in the area and if you don't mind going to one of the surrounding areas capital (livestock) they get home alot if nothing else pop's up and they train you if you don't have any experience hauling cattle.

Try checking with some of the oil field stuff. Might not be local/home every night stuff but I bet it is better then sitting at home with no paycheck.
-
try fedex again. they have 2 jobs listed for round rock, although one is part time. even that would be a foot in the door.
conway listed a position on the 19th for san antonio, but i would imagine that's a little too far for you. i'm adding it in case it will help someone else.Last edited: Feb 21, 2010
