The sun shined for a while here this morning. The forecast here is calling for 4-6" of snow/rain mix tonight and tommorrow. This is making me wonder if there's much demand for truckers in Hawaii? I'm guessing no grain hauling, I'd have to learn to haul coconuts or pineapples or something. But at this point in the winter, it seems worth looking into.
wheathauler and dairyman Thank this. -
My wife and daughter are going on a cruise to the caribbean next week. Maybe I should try and stow away and go with them.
We're same as you RW...4 to 6 inches with wind. -
It'd be alot of fun trying to get there, i would bet!
I'm still up in Lafayette, IN - haven't moved a mile in over 40 hours - then again, I don't have to and I like it here. LOL
This loads going to AL and they won't unload me until Monday morning, so I'll probably move a few hundred miles tonight (procrastinating), and check a few stops for available parking to get in closer. I've been looking at trailers on the web in my spare time, and I'd really like to find something reasonable to rent/lease for awhile that's closer than NE for service and repairs.
I've talked to 5MtF a few times comparing notes over the past week, and it turns out he's running the load that I just ran! At least he knows going in what to expect, and he's better prepared thanks to his onboard scale. Great guy, and a wealth of information, it's awesome to be able to share notes on this and fine tune it some.
The broker had given me a heads up about there being load discrepancies on that haul, and I had the truck scaled before and after unloading. Turns out the discrepancy is the receiving scale - 800 pounds light between loaded and TARE. I have the proof, so I won't have an issue getting paid out, and they have an answer on the previous problems. When it's between buying scale tickets and waiting 3 to 4 weeks to get paid, I'll drop $7 to $10 anytime!
Hope everyone's enjoying the weekend, or making decent rates if they're running! This winter's long, but we'll outlast it - stay safe!7mouths2feed, wheathauler, Big John and 2 others Thank this. -
I would bet the scale discrepancies are something to do with the ice and snow we've been having. At least 3 of the elevators we go to have had scale malfuntions this winter due to extreme cold, ice, or mud buildup underneath. My first load Fri, the scale at the elevator loading out, the empty weight was about 2000lbs light and gross also too light compared with the river's scales. The rest of the day after that, they were within 40 lbs of each other. I don't know how truck stop scales seem to stay working better, maybe they don't get used as much as elevators, or maybe they don't get as much mud and dust tracked onto them?

I prefer a good hickory axe handle, only need one trip EVER.
HwyPilot: Hawaii is on the PA IRP. I checked very thing except Canada, then noticed it. -
crud, the scoop is home for the deep snow, sweep by hand, and hand drag the trap over. . .stop and snug it up. . . stop and snug it up again. PA to NC packed tighter than heck hard to start at unload.
Good point came out clean with minimal sweeping.slabrunner Thanks this. -
wheathauler,have a good week?

...& yeah, asked to clarify about the acreage at the time. Forget why or what the reasoning was.RW. Thanks this. -
Oahu a depressing little place in my experience. Great for a visit but just a speck of land in a monstrous waste of sea.
