Starting a new job wk from sunday, should prove interesting. Always been a local driver...now going to become a vagabond. Today went to one of the local truck stops to pick up some stuff for my CB, and had to ask the lady behind the counter how to use the cat scale. She was real good about it even though I think she wanted to laugh at me. LOL It should be a real interesting first trip. (My wife is putting things together for me, the pile looks like stuff a kid takes to camp lol) :biggrin_25515:

Good luck with it, try your best to separate the job from home, know when you get in that truck you need to put forth a good weeks effort, then start think about going home, you can not immediately think about being home when you leave out on Sunday, it will be the longest 5 or 6 days of your life. I speak this from my own experiences, I've been local for 7 years but when I moved I had to transfer in to a regional position, I was able to stick it out about 3 months before I began hunting anohther local job, luckily for me I was able to transfer back to local with my current carrier, and this is where I feel most comfortable. Just understand it's not a walk in the park, if you're a family man and enjoy your wife's company it's going to be tough, but it can be done, I just hope you didn't take this job for the sense of adventure, hopefully circumstances with your local job led to this, I hate to see people leave good local jobs because of this sense of "freedom" of the road, it's just not there, but again these are just the opinions of one driver, me, not all the others on here. Best of luck, and keep us updated.

I know what you mean. You'll find that while the "question" may sound funny to an experienced person, they would much rather you ask than mess up.:biggrin_255:

I did regional for about 1.5 years. That meant I was gone 5-6 days a week and home for a 34 hr break. Occasionally, I'd take a 10-12 hr break at my house, just based on the load scheduling since I live only 15 miles from my terminal. Just my luck, it always seemed I was sleeping when wifey came home from work....:biggrin_2557:

The job is regional (fla-northeast, east of mississippi), but of course that could change, and no...Im not into it for adventure lol, my local job here in charlotte just doesnt pay what it should, so financially, Im doing this.
Don't get me wrong, Im excited about it, and yes I will miss my wife, for we are really close (she forever is following my dreams) I admit, I should have done this in my 20s not late 40s, but oh well. This is going to be a whole new world for me, everything I did at previous jobs goes out the window. (ex. fueling at a truck stop, fuel was always done at the company yard lol). I do want to thank all of u for helping me decide about the company I finally signed on with, all the pros/negs of all the companies I "thought" I wanted to hire on with, finally led me to this one.

Good Luck. I'm getting ready to do the same thing here soon. My wife wants to move back south to warmer weather and so it shall be lol. You know what they say if momma ain't happy ain't nobody happy. I've been a regional driver for the last couple years home every weekend and 1 day a week but I don't mind going back over the road though as long as I can get back home every couple weeks for a couple days.
