I am a CDL grad (October 2022) looking to get into anywhere to build up some experience and start a new career in trucking. All my felony and traffic violations are over 15 to 20 years old. I have not been in any trouble since.

My MVR was holding me back from getting hired from most companies recently as I had a DUI conviction back in 2008 and I wasn't able to afford to start the process of reinstatement until 2020 and have been fully reinstated February 2022. From what I found out by members here and some companies, I needed at least a min of a year driving history before being considered to hire. This February would be a full year.

A job recruiter came to my town recently and I went to bring this up with them, and to my surprise, with all of my background and MVR reports, they checked with the company and they agreed that I was good to go, besides what would of hurt at that point to drop in an application now anyhow, I'm desperate at this point for work and the experience.

With in 5 hours a recruiter calls me back, confirms that safety/compliance has no issues with my MVR and every thing else is good to go, but there is a felony charge for threats and intimidation to a witness and a reckless damage to property charge back in the 90's over 20 years ago when i was 17 they want to see the arrest record for. At this point I couldn't care less about my felony background, sure, I did the crimes, did the time, I became a better person than that ,moved past it and don't behave like that anymore, but I don't look back at it or dwell on it. I just need a shot at a career.

I also wasn't worry about the felon stuff either because EVERYWHERE was saying they "never go back more than 10 years, and if they do that illegal!" Covenant Transport sent me back a criminal background check showing everything in my lifetime. This new company told me they will check my lifetime background as well. So I am new to all this and I need to get hired so at I am like, well there's some stuff, I don't know what's gonna show up on your end cause of the age but here's what Covenant sent back to me!

I'm trying to get my mind to stop racing on this and quell some anxiety over it, as this is the first company to go further in the hiring process than everyone else who's slammed the door on me. The arrest record for this is over 100 pages long, I haven't received it yet, should I be worried or ready to just look for another company? I would think a criminal background search should of been good enough or even court records, but an arrest record really isn't fair because they originally charged me worse charges but I was convicted of way lower offenses on those charges. And the length of those pages, should I do redactions of non important information? This whole thing feels like a trap and they are looking for an excuse to get out of hiring me? Anyone have thoughts? Thank you. Sorry for another long winded post.

Did you apply to all the companies in your other thread?
If not, do that and don't make any phone calls until you submit the online applications off the websites.
    Am I unhireable after a DUI/revocation?

tscottme, rabbiporkchop and bryan21384 Thank this.

There are companies that will hire you in Feb., which is tomorrow.~
Where is your location? OK, I see you're near Chicago.

Answer questions on the applications, carefully.
Don't ad information that isn't asked for.
"Have you had a DUI within the last 10 yrs?" The answer is 'NO'. Don't say 'NO', but I did 20 yrs. ago.

Yea, I originally went to talk to the recruiter because I wanted to know their policies so that I know how to handle the process in February with applications and just more detailed information, to my surprise when they said "im good to go" after checking around on my behalf, i said why wait. If they were willing to take me, ok, lets do it.

20 years ago?! Dang that's a thorough check! You can't limit yourself when looking for another company. It's good to have at least 3 to 5 options. Sure you'll have a preference, but a backup plan is good if your first choice falls through. I don't see a reason why you can't find a company though.

after this, if by some kind of miracle happens and I get hired somewhere, I'm dedicating my paycheck for sealing and expunging as much of my records thats allowed, this is way to much stress to go into finding a job again.

Shoot man, you won't even have to do that WHEN you get hired. You'll be developing experience. Once you get experience, it becomes so much easier to find work. I'd stay at whichever company as long as possible, at minimum 1 year. Once you get some time in, there companies that won't check your record past 3 years, really good, well paying companies.
