If the average speed is legal and doable, they have to prove it. Let em write all the tickets they want, if they can't prove it in front of a judge (the real authority no matter what they say) they can't do anything.

Partly true. I run Canada and the US. The split sleeper in Canada is better for the drivers. It can be any two periods of two hours or more that add up to ten hours and both stop the clock.
The other big difference that I really like is the 10 hour break. Only 8 hours have to be consecutive, the other 2 can be taken in periods of 30 mins or more throughout the day.
But, that said, the rules are what they are and I have no problem dealing with them. It just bugs me when we go to the trouble we do sometimes to be fully compliant and someone comes on here who seems to think it's a game and he wins by catching you for any little thing and claims it's in the name of safety when we all know better.jlkklj777 Thanks this. -
You mean like "Blind Man's Bluff"? LOL

Violations written up during an audit don't go before a judge . The auditor has the option of citing for speeding or document falsification , claiming the miles couldn't be driven in the time logged .

If you can't make an "honest" living in this profession you should really consider a different line of work. There are many occupations that make more after you receive the experience and training.slabrunner and Hedon Thank this. -
Well doesn't that guarantee their precious revenue stream nicely. Although you still have to be too dumb to use a calculator to get caught.Kansas Thanks this.

Been DOTed in Manitoba 4 times in the last 1 1/2. I never had more then a 34 hour restart and have no clue what a DVIR is. Never got a fine or put out of service. Always got a pass. -

On a lighter note, a couple of weeks ago I was pulled in to a scale crossing into Nova Scotia from New Brunswick. When I presented my paperwork, the DOT guy looked at it for a few minutes, and said "This log book's no good. Go get me your other one." To which I replied "What other one? Running multiple books is illegal." He said "I know that, but you'd be surprised how often that line works."
kajidono, Kansas, Hedon and 1 other person Thank this.
