So, you are able to determine who is qualified to drive a truck by looking at

    them?

You must be a hoot at the fuel desk.

Every I hear a claim like that, it pegs the BS meter. Just like those that see a Hispanic and know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they're 1. Illegal and 2. Speak no English

Is this thread not about NAFTA trucks?????

Nobody here cares if a Hispanic goes out gets a CDL.....People need a job...let them work if they are qualified.

    Not All Hispanics are Mexican....btw.....

I know some think a criticism of Mexico is criticism of all Hispanics.....

Mexican trucks will probably be in the US by the end of 2010. And NO, there won't be any violence or major issues.

I'm all for protecting American jobs, but not through racism and falsehoods.

Ranting and raving about NAFTA isn't going to change the fact that it was passed in 1994, so the time to have done something about it was back in the early 90's, not in 2010.

And all US admins have been in support of "free" trade for over 40 years, both Repubs and Dems.

In fact, it was Reagan who championed many of the free trade policies that cost so many US based jobs to head overseas. So, don't try to blame any one party (outta the two viable ones in the US), as they are both responsible.

Mexicans just want to put bread (or perhaps tortillas as the case may be!) on the table for their families. Same as Americans or any other people in the world.

I have a lot of criticisms of Mexico and it's government, but I'm not going to air them here as this is supposed to be a NAFTA related thread.

But for all the US truckers, just stop and realize that the job is much the same all over the world and view your fellow drivers with respect.

Lots of folks seem to use issues like immigration or the use of the Spanish language in the US as thinly veiled vehicles for racist attacks and for advancing their own prejudiced views of the world.

I just call it as I see it. I've no time to deal with narrow minded bigots and trolls.

Ok...you just presented a valid argument....

    Now who is safer?

An American driver going down to Mexico or a Mexican driver running up here?

    I won't run in Mexico....

The last time I was there....some Mexican army punk pointed a loaded M-16 at my face to show me that I was in "His country".....

If an American service personnel did that to a Mexican national....it would be all over the wire services....The ACLU, MeCha, La Raza would be up in arms.....

I'm living in BA JA Mexico along the ocean. The military check points are necessary. Allot of drugs cruising on the highways, although I think more drugs then reported makes it through to the U.S.

Kidnappings of wealthy happens and U.S. truck drivers have the same risk any truck driver has on Mexico highways and byways.

The MC Mexican truck inspections caugth enough violators to suggest the Mexican trucks could use a little more care.

I think GPS tracking devices should be mandatory and three log books, with three drivers, well its better then one driver exceeding 500 miles a day, with false log book entries.

A law suit by Mexican truckers, well good luck on that. Finding funding for the program I think is the problem.

Congress must write the funding into one of the bills they enjoy throwing around so much.

That may sound easy, but consider the differences in views and the potential harm such in differences could have on passing a bill in which say the stimulus was the intended bill with associated funds distributed to varying programs.

Having the long haul cross boarder funding in that bill could have stopped it in it's tracks.

Looking back now, I wish it had been included.

And then Health Care legalization is no place for such funding for US MC's poster child program.

So it will take a separate bill and further debate, too include review of SAFETY AND EQUIPMENT VIOLATIONS OF SEVERAL YEARS OPERATIONS.

IF EVERY US TRUCK DRIVER WAS INDEPENDENT and they had balls of steel, maybe they would fight to keep the program closed.

Bottom line, NAFTA is seen as the golden goose by our rep's and big business, but try bring a tv into Mexico without declaring it and paying a import tax and you could loose your car, pickup or truck.

Let a Mexican drive your vehicle without having an American on board and the Mexican government will take it from you.

Drank and drive and your screwed unless you can pay a federal cop $50.00 to $100.00.

If you drive your truck into Mexico in the future, stay on the highways and keep on board mace, a whip, knife, fire extinguisher, sling shot with marbles, baseball bat, hammer, chain with steel balls attached and battery nail gun, but heaven forbid, don't forget your cell phone and not because there will be someone you can call for help, but so you can film the attack provided you have an area to fasten your phone, upload to the internet or send to your email.

Might need a record of why you chained to death a bandit.

Or you can do what I do, let Mexican employees do all my shopping, and stay home except when it's really necessary to travel.

Bottom line, you don't need a gun to protect yourself.

For those that can LIVE WITH A DOG ON THE ROAD, GET A BIG ONE.
