    yes there are such companies.

schnieder, jb hunt, werner, swift, atlas van lines, north american van lines, basically all of them big boys do that. good luck, as i personally like the conviences of the local stores, my home, my bathroom, my tv room, my shower, my yard, my everything.

but, if you really want to do long haul, call any of the above company's, and look into the trucker magazines as well, and even call and tell them that's what you want to do.

you should always make full use of your 11 hours driving time, in fact, your company may get "on your case" if you don't. as for truckers magazines, try: RPM, Overdrive, and whatever else is available at truckstops. or, do an online search for "truckers magazines'

Not necessarily. Some of the bigger companies are putting more of their cross-country loads on the railroad.

You might try SouthernCal, but you have to run team though.

The big companies like schneider or swift dont really do a whole lot of big cross country trips most have been put on the rail road. Last company I was with otr longest trips were 1100 mile trips give or take a 100, and this was a small company with under 1000 trucks. Second the companies hiring in the "trucker" magazines arent really ones you want to work for they advertise in everything they can get there hands on, and are the mega carriers paying 25 cpm.

So has rail carrier use meant the demise of a majority of cross country travel with the majors ?

Anymore input on this topic ?

No , not the majority . There could never be enough rail hubs with the logistics to handle this . In addition to rail though there will be more cargo ships along the coasts and barges on inland waterways . There are good opportunities on river barges . Work 30 days on , 30 days off , and make a lot more than OTR drivers .
