A DVIR is a "driver Vehicle Inspection Report." It is mandatory in the states that each day a DVIR be filled out certifying you inspected the vehicle and it is road worthy. It is supposed to be shown as your "post trip" inspection.

It's that box you sign on the log that says "I inspected this vehicle." It can be a separate sheet but why do more paperwork.
-
It has to be more than that . There has to be a place to list defects , for the mechanic to sign off defects as repaired , and a place for the driver to sign acceptance after repairs are done . Carriers also have to keep original copies on file and one has to be on the vehicle to be reviewed s part of the pretrip .
Canada also requires a daily inspection but it can be pretrip or posttrip . It is best to use the Canadian form when in Canada but if using your carrier form be sure to add location of inspection and license plate number and state of the truck and trailer . That info is required .jlkklj777 Thanks this. -
I have to correct myself . When the DOT OIG files criminal charges for document falsification the case does go before a judge and jury . I have never heard of anyone charged proving they are innocent nd winning a case .

Yeah, there's a place for that, but all you have to do every day is sign it. As long as you don't find anything wrong anyway.

Well, I understand that is the section on the bottom of my log book pages. Never been asked for a seperate page or paper for my truck inspections. I get stopped quite often because I run a long nose pete and they go through all my stuff along with looking for my length permit.
The only thing I have to do is write in the comments section what work week I am working. ie 70 hour week -
I have never been asked for the DVIR on the trailer although it is required to have it .

Actually checking a box on your log book is no longer sufficient. I believe the regs were changed in 2005. It used to be LTL carriers were the only ones required to fill out a DVIR at the end of their shift (slip seat operation) but the rule was changed to include ALL motor carriers. The reports must be filled out in duplicate. The original must be submitted to the company and the copies stay with the truck. Here is an example of what a DVIR looks like;
Description: Helps you satisfy DOT vehicle inspection regulations -- 49 CFR Sections 396.11 and 396.13.![[IMG]](proxy.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.rydersafetyservices.com%2Fimages%2Fproduct%2Fjjk116b.gif&hash=0f733f8c6dbf6cda33e96d7c8d33b4d3)
I understand some newer logbooks have this inspection form incorporated into the logbook itself. If your carrier has the deluxe version then you would not need a seperate book.
