Rout?

My one trip into Canada took three days. US Customs refused to let me back in because the Canadian load I had picked up wasn't documented properly (crushed tin cans) and escorted me back across to Canada to take it back. (yes!, I had to pay again!)

When I came back empty they escorted me over to the X-Ray machine and asked me why I had been in Canada so long to come back empty. When I got through explaining, even they laughed! I was able to point to the officer who had sent me back.

Nah, I ain't going back to Canada.

 

if i remember correctly, anyone going into canada now needs a passport to gain entrance back into the USA.............

i use to like canada myself, except when i stopped for a coffee or food. they would always give me canadian money back, not american. but good for me, no more trips to canada.

 

Passports are only required for flying to the US, not driving, at the current time.

 

I don't mind going to Canada at all. There is additional paperwork for customs coming back in that does suckup your time, but that's about it. You just have to make sure you've got your ducks in order.
As far as driving there, other than the typical "big city" congestion, I think it's pretty decent driving. As for Mexico, forget it!!!!! Just take a ride down to Laredo, probably the worse drivers in North America are there, and I don't mean just the 4wheelers. It's almost if not for boredom waiting for a load, I hardly leave the terminal bobtailing.

 

oh, i thought it was any type of travel, since a person still has a border to cross. but in time, i'm sure we will need passports just to go to the bathroom at the local 7-11..........afterall, isn't that foreign ground these days.....????

 

What I was told at the Illinois DMV in late Dec. '06:
from today until Dec.31, 2007 You'll need at least to cross the border:
A U.S. Birth certificate
A Signed Social Security Card

AFTER Jan.01,2008:
You can only cross with a U.S. Passport.

Now bear in mind, this comes from a the state that not too long ago got "busted" for selling CDL's to the highest bidder!

 

This is what I recall as well, although the land crossing thing has been changed quite often, so it might again before next January.

 

Just more added expense to a group of people that are having a hard enough time to make ends meet,The last i checked its going to cost about $90 to $100 for a passport on top of what it cost for a hazmat endorsment.
