I had a friend some years ago, who retired from trucking and opened a small dinner. He had parking for about 10 or 15 trucks (10 if 2 where Swift trucks, just kidding). He had real home cooking, nothing was cooked in a microwave or was frozen from a box, all from scratch. After about a year or so the locals started slacking off their visits. Bernie ask a few of them that had been regulars why they had stopped coming in. This is what they told him. It was the rude and disgusting TRUCKERS.

You see the truckers would through their piss bottles and trash out on the ground, which Bernie picked up some times 5 times a day. Then there was the graffiti on the rest room walls and the walls around the pay phone bank that he had put in just for the drivers. ( this was in the early 90's and most drivers didn't have cell phones) Then you had the drivers who hadn't bathed in over a week. It seemed like they always wanted to sit right next to a local family trying to enjoy some of Bernie's home cooking. Then there were the truckers who couldn't finish a sentence without at least saying ##*$ 3 times.

Well to make a long story short Bernie, who now remember is a retired trucker put up a cable barrier and no truck parking signs, had the phone bank removed, painted over the graffiti and apologise to his regulars. Guess what happened next? His business picked back up. He never again until he died and his wife retired and closed the restaurant had any problem's like he had when he tried to make his place trucker friendly.

So no I can't blame Wal-Mart or any other business for not wanting trucks in there lots. I know that if I had a business (and I have been a trucker for better then 25 years) I wouldn't want trucks in my lot using it as a truck stop.

We have met the enemy and he is us!

Professionalism has died. I agree that most truckers are a disgusting lot. I think that is changing with a more and more younger crowd comming in though. It makes me laugh (in a sad way) when you go in someplace to eat and there are drivers who don't even bother to change out of their pajamas (mostly women) or the drivers who don't change outta their sweet pants/shirt and flip flops that they have been in for lord knows how long. Take some pride in yourselves! That is all I have to say about that.

Eh, can't really pin that one on truckers alone. A lot of people dress like that anymore. And a lot of them can be found in wal-marts everywhere. Which is why I do my shopping at 2am.

OMG.. too funny. Especially the pic on the YouTube of everyone sitting around (on Walmart furniture) in front of the Walmart TV's!

I do have to admit that there have been nights we've stayed in Walmart lots, and I've straggled in to use the bathroom early in the morning in my PJ's. I know, it's not right, but come on.. when you gotta go, you gotta go!:biggrin_2556:

You flat out nailed this one with the Bernies analogy. Its ditto for Wal Mart, truckers make up too small of their clientele to risk alienating everybody else. This goes right along with my theory that truckers have turned into the new class of homeless. For many of them, if they didnt have that truck to sleep in they would be in a cardboard box somewhere. Until we say no to the bottom feeder companies, and quit attending their govt subsidised schools it's never going to get back to what it used to be. Nothing disgusts me more than seeing a fat slob do a controlled roll out of his trash littered truck. Tailing just behind him will be 3 days worth of ### stench coming from his under sized sweat pants. I feel truly sorry for the next soul that gets this guy as his trainer. Can you even fathom trying to sleep in the same bunk he uses? I think I'd have to boobytrap his sleep apnea pack!

you should check out the walmart supercenter in tolleson, az. it's located at the south-west corner of lower buckeye and 75th ave. day, night, whatever, there are some mighty fine specimens shopping at that store. most of which are disgustingly obese women with tubetops that say "sexy" or "sexy and desiring" on the front.

Tube tops shouldn't be designed to stretch that far.
