I had a friend some years ago, who retired from trucking and opened a small dinner. He had parking for about 10 or 15 trucks (10 if 2 where Swift trucks, just kidding). He had real home cooking, nothing was cooked in a microwave or was frozen from a box, all from scratch. After about a year or so the locals started slacking off their visits. Bernie ask a few of them that had been regulars why they had stopped coming in. This is what they told him. It was the rude and disgusting TRUCKERS.
You see the truckers would through their piss bottles and trash out on the ground, which Bernie picked up some times 5 times a day. Then there was the graffiti on the rest room walls and the walls around the pay phone bank that he had put in just for the drivers. ( this was in the early 90's and most drivers didn't have cell phones) Then you had the drivers who hadn't bathed in over a week. It seemed like they always wanted to sit right next to a local family trying to enjoy some of Bernie's home cooking. Then there were the truckers who couldn't finish a sentence without at least saying ##*$ 3 times.
Well to make a long story short Bernie, who now remember is a retired trucker put up a cable barrier and no truck parking signs, had the phone bank removed, painted over the graffiti and apologise to his regulars. Guess what happened next? His business picked back up. He never again until he died and his wife retired and closed the restaurant had any problem's like he had when he tried to make his place trucker friendly.
So no I can't blame Wal-Mart or any other business for not wanting trucks in there lots. I know that if I had a business (and I have been a trucker for better then 25 years) I wouldn't want trucks in my lot using it as a truck stop.
We have met the enemy and he is us!

Professionalism has died. -
Professionalism has died. I agree that most truckers are a disgusting lot. I think that is changing with a more and more younger crowd comming in though. It makes me laugh (in a sad way) when you go in someplace to eat and there are drivers who don't even bother to change out of their pajamas (mostly women) or the drivers who don't change outta their sweet pants/shirt and flip flops that they have been in for lord knows how long. Take some pride in yourselves! That is all I have to say about that.

Be ready for a good laugh! -
I do have to admit that there have been nights we've stayed in Walmart lots, and I've straggled in to use the bathroom early in the morning in my PJ's. I know, it's not right, but come on.. when you gotta go, you gotta go! -
