Bringing this one back…. I have ds404 in my truck and want to swap out the front diff for a dsp40 with a locker. Same gear ratio
Will that be a direct bolt in? Would I need new axle shafts if so? Thanks!
-
DS404 and DSP40 are interchangeable. Some housings had 4 long bolts, 2 on the top, and 2 on the bottom, other housings had all short bolts. so depending on which housings you have and swap to you may need a couple bolts but that is all.

Many thanks. I’ve talked to 2 shops and couldn’t get a clear answer from either.

I know when I swapped my rear rear for a locker I had to get one different axle shaft. Has a longer splined section for the locking mechanismbjytech and dirthaller Thank this.

I had to “notch” the housing to accept the solenoid that runs the locker. Be careful not to color outside the lines if you don’t want it to leak. It’s been a dozen years since I’ve done it and yes you will need the solenoid side axle shaft that has longer splines.lester Thanks this.

Why the locker in the front rather than the rear? Or do you just happen to have a front with locker laying around?
