Better to DMV test or from a third party?

If you know when the class ends, schedule the appointment shortly thereafter. Do not wait until the class ends to schedule it.

 

So you're held up by bureaucracy. You complete the schooling, the school submits to the examiner, the examiner submits to the state, and then the examiner schedules your appointment.

Sounds like a classic cluster#### to me.

Another option, is renting a truck/driver from a facility (if that's available in your state) to take your test. But you'd have to weigh if that cost is worth the 2-3 week wait to take it via the school.

 

You want someone working as a driver to give you a definitive answer ABOUT ALL 3RD PARTY TESTING?

 

If you have that answer why are you asking us to give you an answer form years or decades ago when we tested?
I can imagine you starving to death as you consider the 7,3048 important questions about what,when, how, why to eat tonight.

 

You might want to check other states requirements near you. And if you find one that doesnt sound too bad, find a school in that state and tell them your story and see if they will let you test in one of their trucks. It doesnt matter what state you get your CDL in, it WILL be valid in your home state.

This is what happened to me: I got my CDL in 1984. Around 1990 I came down with a weird rash, went to the VA and they put me on some meds that kept me from driving for the itching. 3 years later they finally figured out what was wrong with me and gave me meds to cope with it, and those meds allowed me to drive again. But in the meantime, I let my CDL lapse. In order to get it back, I had to re-test. So I called the school I went to originally, told them what I needed to do, they let me spend a few days on the parade ground practicing (you dont ever forget how to back up once you learn it btw) and gave me one of their reserved test slots and a truck to take the test in. I think they charged me $500 if I remember right.
