If you run a stinger steered auto transporter, you need a permit for Manitoba. They require 25% of the trailer behind the trailer axles, and with a stinger loaded with vehicles it approaches 35%. The HOS rules are different in Canada. You need a 36 hour restart, not 34 hours, But you can drive 13 hours a day.

Last time I was up there, Canada required a 24-hour break every 14 days. Possibly one of the dumbest HOS rules ever imposed. Shut down at 1700 then have to start driving the next day at 1700 switching to nights. Obviously, a reset would be a much better idea.

DUI’s and weapons violations are what trips most people up going into the Great White North.
They have a different understanding of what is a weapon. Certain pepper sprays, knives, etc are prohibited, as are, of course handguns. Don’t have loose ammo in your truck, either. Make sure your entry has been accepted before you get in line at the border.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
Those are minimum times for the break, but the driver can choose to extend that to keep a preferred schedule.Another Canadian driver, ncmickey and lual Thank this. -
When I looked in to it.
Duis had to be 10 years old.
One could also get permission from some agency up there.
The only way they'll find mine is if they looked up my lifetime mvr. Supposedly. They only go back 10 years.
Researching it now.
It's lotsa different information on the rules.Last edited: Feb 25, 2023

If you are checked by customs/immigration and the man asks 'were you ever arrested?' make sure you answer correctly as he is already looking at your records.
Had one fleet owner who, at 45 found out they were looking at a 'disorderly' from his wild and crazy teen years.
That's a lot more than ten years.
Same guy had to drive another driver towards the boarder at Sweetgrass, MT after one of his new hires turned out to be hiding a 'receiving stolen property' and was turned around.

IF the OP has a DUI, then he has to pay to get a rehabilitation certificate, they just wan the money.
BUT if you show up to the border and had a DUI in 1982, they will know about it and will tell you to turn around and flag your truck/car license.Another Canadian driver and wis bang Thank this.
