I see you guys running 1-70 and 287 in Colorado so the time. Do they have many loads that pick up out there or you think it’s just passing thru? I’m considering switching back but i do like my home time, but God driving between Denver and Georgia every week is driving me insane.

    bentstrider83 and Tanker_82 Thank this.

Those are probably Clovis regional trucks going back and forth to the Denver area from the Texas panhandle. I’m not sure how plentiful those loads are.

A buddy of mine who came over from my previous company runs a dedicated route for Clovis. He’s mentioned to me on the phone a few times that some of the dedicated drivers over there run loads up to Platteville, CO from Hartley, TX. They go up to 70 and across in order to avoid Raton Pass. I’m guessing that’s who you see. I rarely haul dairy loads and only see the Clovis terminal once every year or two, so I don’t have much knowledge on that region. There used to be a local Clovis driver who participated in this thread a few years ago. I’m not sure if they’re still active on here or not. If so, hopefully they can jump in and answer.

It's a mixture of drop/hook and live loading/unloading. The dedicated guys in the NE do nothing but drop and hook for huge customer in NJ. I am not on that account so I do a mix.

They don't normally pay for loading or unloading. The exception to that would be if you run a pump truck and have to pump off or if you load tanks at a shipper for drop hook operation and aren't actually delivering them.

They don't pay for tank washes either, which I know is a sticking point for some drivers.

X2 on Redtwin’s response. Although, we do receive detention pay if we arrive on time and are held up longer than 2 hours. It’s not technically loading/unloading pay, but detention occurs at customers, so a person could call it that in a sense.

The drop and hooks vary. As an OTR driver, 75% of my loads tend to be drop/hook. The live loads/unloads are fairly quick nowadays. I’m usually not on customer property long enough for detention pay to kick in. As far as tank washes go, I rarely live wash. 8 times out of 10, I pick up clean tanks at IRT terminals or drop/hook with a clean one at a tank wash.
