Maybe somebody who has been long time in this business can explain me why drivers always wanted. I mean every week across the country hundreds of people getting new CDL's. I do realize that fall out maybe big because let say OTR is a lifestyle that not everybody can handle, not just a job, but still why drivers are always wanted? I may understand that this industry may be growing, but not that much! Are there some other reasons that make people to drop out of this business?
Thanks.

Becouse company's are like a box of chocolates, you never know if the next one is going to taste any better. And then you find out it tastes like crap just like the last one
str8t10 Thanks this. -
exactly. thats it in a nutshell.str8t10 Thanks this. -

we stay in the industry for so many different reasons. not to mention the cdl was earned and not just given to us. people quit trucking jobs just like people quit other jobs. false hope and lies by companies gets old and then hearing another company telling you what you want to hear you go to them and find out they are no different than the one you just left. its not good to job jump but some people do it. -
Plus I think a lot of it is people have a misconception of what trucking is. When they get in it they move around to look for a better fit. Lots of reasons. In trucking it seems like no job is as good as your last. Many move around or go back to their old driving job.

then, the very next day, we had a "temp driver", that did that same run, and the first run was supposed to be a total of 4.5 hours ROUND TRIP....!!
he did it in 7 hours (total time), 2 hours, up, 2 hours back (4 hours total, or 4.5 for a "first timer"), remember this for later. i gave him detailed directions, he got there, but then "decided" to use his Magellan (or whatever), and he followed that, and this is where he took 5.5 HOURS TO GET BACK.....not a simple 2 hours.............!!
when he got back i asked him if snow or ice held him up, he said no, he got lost following his "Magellan"..............!!
i told him, "the directions i gave you up, you should have simply "reversed" them for coming back"..........
he said, "i could have done that"........?? and he was SERIOUS.......!!!
he then left for his second run, back to that same place, this time, i would have thought he was "smarter", boy was i wrong. he was supposed to get fuel at a 24 hour fueling depot, using a keypad entry. he WAS GIVEN ALL THE INFO.............guess what...........he stayed there 4 HOURS because he couldn't figure it out, and HE NEVER CALLED FOR HELP....!!
he got back so late, the day driver was now 2.5 hours behind, as this "idiot" was using his rig.
that "temp driver" was fired from us, and his employer fired him as well.........
this is yet (an extreme) reason why "drivers are always needed"...........
---------------------------------
and yet another reason why "drivers are always wanted" is because some of us become supervisors/dispatchers, as we want off the roads...........so a need for drivers is available at some companies.
but with that idiot "temp" i had as a driver(??), and me being a supervisor/dispatcher now, sometimes i wish i WERE driving again.......... -
The reasons I see are drivers jumping from company to company, and newbees that don't have a clue about what trucking is about and get fed up and quit.

Yea, it would be nice if some of these points of interest had truck parking.
