older dexter 10k HD axle with oil bath hubs. just went thru and changed some bearings and hubs, filled up hubs with oil of course, went for test drive, came back, oil line in sight glass is not even registering, i add oil,, wait for a while, go on another test drive, come back,,, oil once again not registering,, I know the obvious answer is it's leaking out the seal,, but it does not appear to be leaking out the seal. i am using 80-90 gear oil and it is 45-55 degrees so maybe it is all going up in bearing. perhaps when i go out tomorrow, it will be way overfilled.

so question for guys who have actually replaced bearings and seals on these dexter axles,,,,

    1. does it take a bit of driving to find right oil level? and is it best to add while hubs are warm from driving or cold?
    2. my plan was to run some 80-90 for a few K and then hopefully get any debris out of there and then put in some lucas oil.
    3. i can seem to find a decent oil seal puller for these 4 1/2" OD / 3.25" ID oil seals,, anyone know of one?
hopefully i won't have to do it much, but you never know.

Takes a bit for the oil to get into the cavity in the hub.

    No driving needed.

No, it does't matter hot or cold. just make sure it is level, the expansion of the oil isn't a great amount.

Do not use Lucas, use a good oil there is a list of it on the Dexter axle site in their medium duty catalog.

I have lisle seal puller made a long time ago, I don't know if they make them now, but I know harbor freight has a slide hammer kit that may work.
