I've only been woke up twice. Once was a LL at the Petro in Hammond, LA and the other time was at a rest area on 40 in NC. Dude woke me up to beg for money to get home to his dying grandma or some BS like that. I yelled at him for waking me up, rolled up the window and went to the bunk. Of course I laid there awake for a whe to make sure he didn't try to do anything to my truck.

I have only had a couple of knocks in the middle of the night from LL's and pan handlers. I usually just lay there in bed and ignore it. They rarely knock twice. The main time I am approached is when I am sitting in the drivers seat playing on the computer or doing paperwork. If the place is questionable I usually pull the curtains as soon as I set the brakes.

Just take it in stride, part of the biz. What irritates me is lumpers knocking at 3 am to set up an 'appointment' while you're parked outside the consignees gate sleeping. Or, a fellow company driver bored who wants to shoot the breeze. On a side note, I never knock, I just rock the cab and the driver wakes up!

That would work. Let's hope the lot lizards aren't reading this.

A few weeks back I was I had a man knock on my door.

    Bum: Can I come in?
    Me: No.
    Bum: But I'm cold!
    Me: Go inside the truckstop.
    Bum: That's not a truckstop!
Me: Yes it is. Go inside the truckstop if you're cold.
Bum: But they'll call the police if I go back in there!

Before any of you here call me cold-hearted, let me just say that the man reeked of some type of liquor, and he talked like he was looking for some gay sex!

I haven't been awaken by panhandlers or lot lizards in the past few years. I'm more savvy about where I park and know places to avoid.

The last place I was harassed was at the Hardee's in Chattanooga, TN. The lot lizards there kept knocking every couple of hours.

Oh yeah! And the ones that have that lovely "back up" beeper that goes off the entire time they are backing into their spot. Why do they only hit the truck stop at 03:00? :biggrin_25523:

Ya know, I'll be a 56 year old newbie in a few months. But I have a plan. When I screw up and some veteran driver asks me if I'm new, I'm gonna tell him "Nope, I've been doing this for years, I'm just a slow learner". Being a slow learner is better than being a newbie, right?
