Today i got a ticket in upstatate New York on route 414 north. Going to Watkins Glen, NY coming off 86 east.
I did not see any signs about length restriction for trailers coming off the ramp and i did not receive any warning from my truck GPS.
After driving for 8 miles i got stop by a DOT officer for inspection right at the red dot shown on the picture below.
There were no signs for those 8 miles. I also have a camera for proof.
After not finding any problems with my truck or logbook the inspection officer told me i was in violation for my 53’ trailer. He said 48’ trailers are allowed but not 53’ even though there were several other 53’ trailer trucks driving north and south of route 414.
Can they still give me this ticket even if there are no warning sings about trailer restriction on this route?
Overlenght trailer ticket

I thought I remembered warning signs coming at 414 from the south, but I’ll take your word for it. As ‘Olhand mentioned, signs are definitely posted on the north end in Watkins Glen, where 414 and 14 join. If you have a road atlas, the route is listed as restricted (I just checked). As for seeing other trucks on the route, yeah, it’s commonly used. Nothing wrong with the road itself, except for the big downhill into town.
Another Canadian driver, gentleroger and Rojazmorillo Thank this. -

There was a warning less than 1 mile after you left I-86
And another about 2 miles before you got pulled over
Weight restriction often means length restriction.
We've all rolled the dice, this time you lost. Negotiate it down the best you can and move on.Siinman, Another Canadian driver, Terlingua and 2 others Thank this.
