I don’t even know where to start. It’s not true that simply keeping a business open for 2 years will get you citizenship. There’s other hoops you have to go through. And the reason shippers are getting favourable rates, is because the big companies can afford to move them cheaper. Bison and Trans X are famous for this just look at what they did with sunripe products out of Kelowna. You’re pointing the finger at the wrong people.
Yes shippers want their freight moved as cheaply as possible, but they’ll also pay for service. That where you can get your rate up. Timely pick up and delivery goes a long way with the just in time shipping method used all the time now.

You've been through it all, what can you recommend at this time? I'm currently on vacation for the winter months, I'm hearing it's just getting worse. When do you think it'll get better? I've been in for 5 years almost but I don't know nearly as much.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

If my truck wasnt paid for I'd unload it if I co hi old. I dont think we have found bottom yet. At 60 I'm closer to the end than the beginning thank god.
As far as how long and how deep will this go? No idea, that's so far above my pay grade I wount even guess.
Im coming off the road, $2.00 a mile GROSS for deck work coming north out of the carolinas, or wait 6 days for a better paying unicorn doesnt work for me. I've been battling some illness lately so time off is ok right ow, but the headache rack is coming off and I'll do local work for a while and be home every weekend.
If I were looking at a career right now, it would be a trade, preferably electrical for me. A red seal electrician with a van and tools can make $100 an hour if you have any hustle in you. Any trade will be the same I would think.
Trucking would NOT be where I would be heading what so ever. This is not the first recession I've seen in trucking but it will hopefully be the last. The first thing ALL shippers and carriers do is slash rates. And the owner ops feel it first.
Stay a company driver or get out.Another Canadian driver, Canadianhauler21, AModelCat and 2 others Thank this. -
Not a whole lot of $30 a hr jobs on indeed At least not in the Gta . I look every day for a better gig there’s not a whole lot of there that pays $28-30 a hr . $24-26 yes you’re correct on that pages of companies looking for driver but most of them are carriers non of us want to work forAnother Canadian driver and Russell The Trucker Thank this. -
Not all trades are alike unless you get into a union ,non union probably making $25-40 a hr for most trade jobs especially plumbing .Atleast with most trade jobs you don’t have to worry about automation taking away your job like trucking
