I need advice on moving from OTR to local for my kids.

Can you do chem tanker ? If not ck penske and ryder.
Otherwise there some chem co there
Basf. univar etc

 

Id go for the office job. Worked for Covenant my first year driving, and spent a fair bit of time at the Chattanooga terminal. Seemed like a decent place to work.

If you're willing to step outside of your own truck (being an O/O right now kinda sux...so sez the whisper on the street, anyway), then the following MAY be worth a look for you....

I'm not completely sure if this one is home daily, or not (I think it is), or what the pay may be like.....regardless, you'd be part of a private fleet:

This next one is similar to my latest gig, but it's BETTER--this is a private fleet, a good option if you're tired of bumping docks, and would like to transition over to tanker (if you haven't already). Your off time here is Tues-Thurs (which might be good with the kids); & I'm assuming here that "evening shift" isn't the same as "night shift":

Energy Dispatch (aka, RaceTrac) -- tanker and hazmat req'd

After having done it for a while...I can honestly say that hauling fuel is arguably one of the easiest gigs in the industry (once you get used to it); fuel hauling offers a lot of advantages to the driver that most other gigs simply can't match, and the icing on the cake here--it's a private fleet....so many of the headaches/glitches that I've had to routinely deal with (with a 3rd party carrier), you most likely won't see.

Carrier I started out at 20+ years ago used to have a contract pulling Brenntag trailers from one location to the next. I remember running Chattanooga down to Atlanta or up to the Owensboro location. We did some runs from their Lancaster, TX location to various points in Texas too. Did some in Chicago and Wisconsin to other points in the midwest. They've got terminals all over the country. NE, SW and NW..

I think they actually supply or at least distribute most of the DEF consumed in this country and probably Canada too. They're a big international company. The ones I had been to get truckload deliveries from OTR carriers then redistribute various chemicals, food grade, poisonous, whatever to their customers. Their drivers were in day cabs and mostly just bumped docks locally making chemical deliveries to their customers. A pallet or 3 here, and on to the next and next. Or tanker deliveries. Probably a very good paying job getting home every night.

 

I’d check with Averitt. They may have a warehouse operation nearby, maybe a dedicated run. A Monday through Friday Local with hourly pay wound be best. Makes planning for the weekend simple.

 

Maybe check with Miller Manufacturing. The Tow Truck folks. Maybe a combination of different work available? CDL a plus? They have at least one satellite location, up in Green county.
