well we are stuck in the 'snowicane' in NY state near PA. Strong winds and freezing sleet/rain and forecast of a couple inches of snow this afternoon and overnight. We alerted dispatch and FM on the QC and got the message back 'thanks be safe' and a new delivery time on Tuesday instead of Sunday. No hassle, no ######## to keep rolling, no pressure. Again. Not the first time bad weather had me not wanting to drive and got a simple OK and changed appointment time. Few companies do it this way. Most pressure you to drive even in blizzards and worse. As for loan you pay $25 a week for 3 years unless you request larger deduction or cut them checks to pay sooner. During that time if you are TAKING HOME AFTER TAX only 12K you are a lazy worthless bum. Estimating my income pre-tax based on starting mleage pay and miles I drive each week for last month I would NET about $1,500 a month, and that is not full solo miles. So figure better than $25,000 first year NET. Right about $27,700 net. Year one. and that doesn't count the raises at 3 and 6 months. Or driving full mileage, that's using student mileage of 450 a day instead of about 600 or more you can do once out on your own.

    KCJ and navyvet1994 Thank this.

Here's a box of tissues and a box of crackers to go with that wine (whine) Maybe you should try the basket weaving industry.

If you think it is a scam stop wasting your time and our time. Total cost of the loan is about 7k. If you complete one year of driving after your training period is complete, then you owe stevens nothing for the training. Simple straight forward, they agree to train you, and you agree to work for them for one year after your training is complete. NO SCAM

You quit before your indentured servitude is up, you owe for the training.

Stevens does not ask for any cash up front, load locks, padlocks, all provided, and deducted from your paycheck. turn in you load locks and padlocks when you quit, total amount credited back to your final check.

And if you have a hard time understanding the student loan department, your attitude will get you into trouble with the driver managers and dispatchers. there is a way to professionally get your point across, and then there is the rant and rave, and become a problem employee. Your choice which you want to be.

You just told the whole world how much you made, so what is the big deal about telling Stevens.
You are obviously in need of work or else you would not be looking to get into trucking, unless you just have to become a truck driver.
Some companies ask for w-2's some like Maverick, who I am out with my trainer with, do an employment verification.
US Express asks you to bring them with you when you go to orientation.
The goal is to get a job and into trucking so that is what you do.

If you are going to get that irrate about a small thing like that, then I would suggest that you not even think about this industry.

    Good Luck to you!

    Hi Smoker,
I was in Baltimore and saw the report about the storm coming in.
We were sent to Pittsburgh and then to East Canton Ohio and only hit a bit of snow.
It is good that Steven's cares about you like that. I am with my trainer at Maverick and they are the same way!
Are you on your own now or are you still with your trainer? I kind of lost track of where you were in the process! I think about you guys whenever I see a Stevens truck driving by!

    God Bless!

The beauty of America is that you have freedom of Choice. Just because you do not want to work for Stevens, does not mean that those that do are loosers!
Stevens has excellent training and runs the 48 states. I considered going to
Stevens but went with Maverick for personal reasons. Had I gone with Stevens, I would have not been a looser. I have made as much as $135,000....but that was a different time and situation. I hope you find what you are looking for!

LOL I smell a troll. But I'll bait the hook anyway since I'm bored at the moment.

basket weaving is a step up from workin at a radio station
As if you'd have a clue of either. I am seriously doubting you've ever so much as seen a transom in person, let alone was a surveyor making 81K a year, solely judging by your inability to use grammar or to capitalize. If you were, then that only proves that any low-grade moron can do that job adequately and is grossly overpaid for it.

your 44 years old and went from yo mamas basement to the passenger seat of a truck
Her house didn't have a basement, it was a ranch-style home, and yes I am 44 and I am in the passenger seat about half the time, but I'm in that driver's seat the other half - and I've wanted to be there for a long time.

So I've lived both of the two dreams I've had for professions - Darned good track record if you ask me, and I took care of my dying parents until their final days.
I'm happy and proud of that, and glad of where I am.

I chose Stevens after researching every training company and school I could find. I spent months eliminating them using as many criteria as I could. Stevens won out for it's recognized industry leading training and superior equipment. I know that sounds like a shill spewing pablum, but it's just plain true. You get almost three months of training; training that is recognized as outstanding even by its competitors. Multiple companies actively recruit Stevens drivers. We get recruitment pamphlets and business cards just parking in truckstops. Werner, Knight, USXpress and C.R. England still call and\or email me weekly offering me higher pay and promises I doubt they can live up to try to lure me away, and my training isn't even finished.
Yes, Stevens hassled me about the last three years of employment, and it was a stupid pain in the ###, but that is my biggest gripe so far,nd I'm happy.
I may stay in trucking for the rest of my working days, or I may move on to something else in a year or two, but I've wanted to drive these rigs since I was a kid, and that desire is still present over thirty years later, so I'm doing it. And not just because I lost a job I claim to have had and can't find something else.
And don't denigrate my mother; she gave everything she had to raise sons who treated others with decency until they proved themselves worthy of being beaten down, and she gave us the guts to do the beating down, too. Judging by your attitude and words, your mother was too busy smoking pot and turning tricks to raise you properly or even see to it that you went to school.
So take your whinny butt off to Burger King or Taco Bell and shut the heck up until I give you my lunch order. And you better not forget to ask me if I want fries or cinnamon crisps with my order!:biggrin_25516:
Smokr now totally ignores bigtex59 who apparently chose his name to compensate for certain personal shortcomings.
