I still remember not being allowed to be on the flight line when they took off during the night, because they were still super classified, over in Kadena.![]()

Guy called about an hour ago, still wants me to come look at this truck and make an offer. Says it has a 6NZ Cat which I’m not familiar with really, and a 10 spd. Said it has around 400,000 on a out of frame done at Caterpillar. Truck is a 2000 model but has a 99 model engine from the factory. Picking y’all’s brains here since I’m not familiar with the engine…. What would be a decent offer to offer him? Truck has been setting for 2 years, he still drives it around every couple months. He’s a good guy which I’ve known for quite a while, never knew of him to be shady…..

Prices are so crazy these days, it's really hard to put a accurate number out there. Just off what you said and the pic, an auction could probably fetch $45-55k. Personally, it would depend on what the frame looked like and how much "lot rot" it has from sitting along with the interior condition. Taking into account needing new wheel seals all the way around and the possible "while I'm in there's", my highest offer would probably be in the mid $30's if I was actively shopping, $18-25k for the "can't pass it up completely" category. 10 speed is negative. A true '99 6nz is pretty rare from what I've read.

Do it. I’ve had couple year old trucks and a 1996 and a 1999. It’s worth it. I bought this peterbilt for $34k. Wonder what it’s worth now after I fixed it up. Has a 12.7 detroit. The paper logs alone make it worthwhile. I would trust this truck over a brand new one. Only downside is fuel mileage and tires. It has 11r24.5 and I paid a fortune for Xdn2 Michelins. I would like to sell all 10 rims and get low pro 22.5 tires but beside that cost I would also need to regear it.

25 - 30k would be about right IMHO figuring to drop an 18 speed in it and an overhaul in the near future — then if the frame was good, you’d have a lifetime truck for a 60 yr old old fart
