Well take this as only my opinion.

Not what he probably thinks. Truck market is pretty soft, and getting worse. KW with a cat is pretty available currently. I understand his situation with the name on the door. Once a great outfit.

So let's break the truck down.

KW, great. Those cabs leak and rattle over a million. Hope it doesn’t have a sunroof.

6nz, great engine and very simple. You can learn them. Heavy, but simple. 400k rebuild is good, but that's used and not fresh, but not worn out. No real added value.

10 speed, doubtful that will work for you.

Wheelbase isn't long enough for you.

Fuel tanks most likely have rot under the straps.

What rear suspension, 200/400. Has it been updated?

I have found that exact model has a sway after 100k gross.

Without more pics, and list of actual history, 23,500 would be my limit. The little parts, interior, doors, are expensive repairs after a million miles.

Again, anyone else may see more. Or less. But business logic says 23.5k. And I think I'm pushing strong for that number.

    Yes, I know I'm cheap.

6NZ alone seems to tack $15k onto the value of a truck. Personally I don't see what's so hot about them.

Nothing worth 15k. Funny thing is when those engines were new, nobody was that crazy about them. Nor did we call them 6nz. But it's more of the last bare bones true cat engine made. I personally liked the earlier E models, about as simple and reliable as you can get.

I'm also no cat historian. That's just based of my experience. Take it with a grain of salt. My knowledge is limited.

And strong— never really drove one till this last year— boss has 2 b models and a C15 — after this year, don’t know that I would look at any anything else— except a 60 series— I’d do that

So those years, I was wrenching full time on all of them.

Anything pre 03, your not gonna be wrong. Problem is that's 20 plus years. They are old. It's more about how they were treated? Who took care of them?

You can't really go wrong with any. I could go on for days. They all had the best engines in history. Those days have passed.

    Cat
    Detroit
    N14
    Mack
    Volvo.

I disliked Volvo, pain in the but. Expensive parts, hard to get service. The VED12 was light, reliable, cheap on fuel. But all were a pain after a million miles. But all five could run 1 mill plus with simplest maintenance.

Don't like them, but have to give them little green turds credit. They just ran.

Exhaust brake on the VED12 was pretty weaksauce though. Really didn't feel like it had very good holdback.
