Cummins makes a lot of money, with those brass shims. The usually do not smash until the warranty is up. Then you pay them to repair the engine, and they put the same shim, back in. They have no incentive to correct the problem.

My boss ordered the kit several months before we took the engine apart as the truck was still out hauling dirt.
He wanted the kit at the shop so it’s ready to install when the engine comes apart.
I opened a can of worms on him basically lol!
Liners came out of the engine and there’s no shims. I also thought at first they came with shims as the kit also has shims already installed on the new sleeves and ready to go.
The boss thought he got a good kit which I’m sure it is a fine kit.
But the brass shims I really don’t like.
(Makes me really like Cat engines a lot more.)Diesel Dave Thanks this. -
