Truck in ditch got scammed by tow truck company?

Why would you pay up front? I don't give anyone a dime until the job's completed.

 

NEVER pay before the job is done, expect them to also maybe not unhook from You till they get paid, but thats just buisness

 

If you paid them and noone showed up, call the credit card company and contest the charge.

That’s a pretty good out of the box thinking scam. Fake cop drives around looking for stranded motorist’s that need a tow. Hand them a phone number to an internet credit card scammer and hope they “hook” someone.
Being that it happened in California i’d say it’s almost scripted out of an old CHiPs tv show episode.

 

Generally police use towing companies that are on their approved tow company list, and they call the tow company.

 

It's a sad commentary of our society that we towmen VERY often stay hooked & ready to roll until payment is complete.
