Going a little fast there bud

Just watched a 1320 video of a purple kw called chilli dog go 117 mph in a half mile track imagine if he doing the standing mile at the ol Salt flats..and it's a working truck.

 

Probably could have. But remember they were outlaw owner operators they probably didn't care about some single axle truck on salt flats.....

 

Able “Chili Dog” Santiago’s truck is fast and he doe’s work it. But nowhere near the way he runs it in races. You’d never know it was fast if it wasn’t for it’s unique distinct “hot rod” sound with the way he operates it locally. I worked with him briefly 20 years ago when we was just starting out driving for his dad part time and been “truck stuff” friends ever since. Great guy. He’s had a bad year after the passing of his son during the Kerrville Airport Race event in Oct. ‘21. RIP Santiago and Rebeca.

 

Lol 7th is a wee bit loud on mine and that was one of the gears replaced when it was rebuilt. Above 1450-1500 it really doesn't whine too loud in the big hole but holy #### anything below that is ear shattering.

That is one tall gear set, 1700 at 80 with 3.91 and LP 22.5

 

Personal top speed in a truck was one of SJ’s 386’s with a neutered c-13. 118mph down hill on 68 in WV using that good ‘ol Georgie over drive.

this was back in the day when i was young & dumb. Today i couldn’t even tell you where my truck tops out at.

 

My 83 had mechanical speedo and tach.

 

Did it stop at 80 mph ?

 

I can't remember, cuz I NEVER exceeded the federally mandated 55 mph.
