I’ve driven a truck seasonally for 20 years. Usually about 69 days annually. My neck and shoulders always get extremely tight and painful and I don’t know why. I used to assume that I was nervous and stayed tense. Lately I’ve figured out that my driving posture may be the culprit. The problem is that if I get the seat adjusted for no back pain it puts me to close to the pedals and my knees hurt at the end of the day. I’m looking for advice.

I run in a slip seat operation so every day is a different rig and the seat/steer wheel needs to be adjusted for me.
Proper height and reach has been a great help in saving my back in a long career.
Don't know how folks can lock out the for/aft movement and drop chair to the floor. Letting the body take the jolts of today's crumbling roads.
Also use a lower back support.

I don’t really have any advice but I totally feel your pain. I am 6’5” and have to cram into a day cab. I did talk my boss into buying me a nice aftermarket seat a few years ago, which has helped immensely. But I guess the new seat option only works if you are in the same seat every day.

Gotta get out and stretch. We get hotels every night so we can use the gyms there so we can use the treadmills and stuff but I understand not every driver gets that but there are some great videos out there on really good stretches you can do. Walking around the truck a few times helps. one thing is taking your wallet out of your back pocket (if that's where you keep it) I noticed that it made me sit crooked and would kill my back and that would move up to my shoulders and neck

A proper seat is the most important part. After switching from a stock Volvo to a Recaro seat, my lower back pain went away. Also, you gotta work muscles in your upper back. The best exercise I found is Farmers walk. I do it every weekend with 100lb in each hand for 30-45 minutes and have no more neck, shoulders and back tightness or soreness.

I found that plenty of air in the seat, sit up straight and using your arm rests helps a lot. But nothing will help if the seat is worn out, I’ve tried various pads including the thickest purple pad (all though it was better, it lowered the armrests too much and caused more problems) nothing truly solves it but a new chair.

This is probably the advice I’m looking for. I need an excuse to start working out.

Grip strength must be good to do farmers walk with two 100 pound dumbbells for 30-45 minutes.

A common treatment for lower back pain is to strengthen the stomach muscles.
Neck and shoulders is commonly because we use our adjuster muscles in our shoulders too much. It’s a bad habit most all of us do. We actually have to remember and push down on our shoulders on purpose. It’s called packing the shoulders.
    One illustration…
Body builders build their adjuster muscles in their shoulders on purpose. They all have shoulder issues because of it.
Now look at a fighter. Boxers are good examples. Their shoulders are packed.
