I don't know what the device costs, I do know it has problems, and it's a pain for multiple drops, sitting in a receiver's drive blocking it while punching the tiny touchscreen before moving is not a good way to endear yourself to strangers.

I've noticed the miles not matching the day, and I have to go into inspection mode to read them. Not consistently, either.

No, I wouldn't use them if it was not required, too costly and don't save me any time.

Without getting too involved in the ELD debate, I am simply looking for information on using an ELD while an Independent Contractor. To make sure whoever reads this, understands exactly what I am saying, I am looking into signing on with another Carrier (someone with their own DOT #) They claim the 150 miles radius and doing t a little research, I show their off a bit and so for the sake of argument, I am looking into running an ELD in my truck, to be 100% sure I am compliant. That said, doesn't the carrier I am leased to have to keep track of my ELD? If not, does a 3rd party take care of that? Appreciate the response.

The carrier you are leased to will need to be the administrator for your ELD. I did exactly what you are thinking to do.. brought my own ELD to the carrier I was leased to. While somewhat of a pia for the carrier to deal with multiple ELD’s it benefited both of us at the time.

In other words the carrier responsible for safety has control of the ELD. You only have control over your driver portion.

As far as a 3rd party goes, I’ve never heard of such a thing..

I think he meant it more as in, now he can just say "thats illegal, no can do", whereas in the past, he had to cajole, beg, convince an annoyed person on the other end of the line that it was neither wise nor as simple as they made it out to be. Problem being, they knew It WOULD be an easy thing to fudge a page to get off property, then fudge it back after they parked elsewhere

Curious how you decided they are off a little bit? Did you use nautical miles when doing your research?
